Gym Jordan loses first house speaker vote...Deja Vu?

The second vote should have started 19 minutes ago, but has been postponed until tomorrow while the GOP, uh, figures out who they support.
A totally normal political party capable of governing a nation, guys.
Over under on 15 votes?

Maybe it's their turn to be comically inept and they'll be forced into a consensus candidate with the Dems for someone ostensibly less ghoulish than Jordan.

Jefferies has more votes than anyone on the Republican side.
If this goes for more than 9-10 votes, some Republicans in Biden districts may vote present just to end the shit-show from the MAGA goons.

Best outcome here is that no speaker is ever elected again. Why?
Because if Congress can't pass shit, that means they can't fuck us over and it means they can't send more money to Ukrainian Nazis or Israeli Zionists. Fuck both of them.
When is the last time Congress did something that benefited us? The only thing they can do is frivolously spend money (that enriches them), give money to various radical groups, and chip away at our remaining rights.
I hope we never have a speaker again. Best possible outcome

I know we are stuck with two big parties, but damn, if there was ever a chance to change one of those for another it seems prime right now....shit almost makes them as ridiculous as they are.

You need to add a "/s" to that because I guarantee a lot of people take that seriously and it solidifies their foolish/wrong thoughts that have been pounded into them by Fox News, among others.

The right seems detached from reality dumping McCarthy when they didn't have the votes to get what they want. McCarthy was evidence that a compromise they didn't really like was necessary.
Do they even count votes before hand, because if they did it would take one ballot. The right keeps playing a game of chicken trying to shut down the government, but the result is always the same; the public supports the Dems and moderates on this issue, and the right is forced to back down.

I think the GOP is happy with the dysfunction in the House. It's probably a rush to them. This is how authoritarianism starts. Dismantling of the establishment. The public doesn't support them by-and-large in total count, but gerrymandering is allowing the GOP to exploit that, as you know.

I think they're trying to figure out a way to not do shit without being blamed for it. A shutdown falls squarely on Republicans, because they've triggered every single one since...at least Obama.
By not having a speaker, the house doesn't do shit, and they've been trying to blame the removal of McCarthy on democrats for a while. Which is rock fucking dumb, but, it works on the uninterested.
I wonder what will happen with the next shutdown. I'm leaning towards one happening...what, we got three weeks left?

Since we all agree that their shutdown the government strategy won't work now, it seems like they're doing some near millennial notion forecasting of an increasing Trump-like future.
Anything's possible, but it's unlikely. What's left of the normal Republicans in congress are anguished but too outnumbered. Traditional conservatives do have a lot of financial backing and desire to normalize their side. It will be interesting to see how the future unfolds.
The Dems should have current advantage but the right (post Trump and purge the crazies) could get it together better than the Dems too big a tent for factory workers and the woke. In the short term the Dems probably need lingering Trumpism to agree on what they're against cause they can't agree on what they're for.

I don't think the shutdown strategy won't work. I think they're just trying to add a layer of abstraction by having it be a shutdown due to a lack of speaker, as opposed to a lack of legislation.
Choppy's assertion that lack of speaker is good because it prevents the government from functioning is an assertion I have heard before. That is, unironically, a mainstream gop opinion.

It's kinda like winning a consolation prize except now he is third in line for being president.
Mike Johnson, the Repube from Louisiana, is a powerhouse. He will waste no time getting things done for working families.

They will do so only to table the motion and shelve it forever.
There is no way in HELL the GOP is going to boot one of their own with such a small majority.

It's too soon to say for sure about Mike Johnson. Maybe he will think about his place in history, and what could be accomplished with some bipartisan deals for the country.
Or, I was completely wrong and MAGA did get an extremist through because he didn't have enough name recognition to scare the people who were supposed to be scared. But all the Republicans voted for him including the 8 0r so we were thinking was sane.
IDK what the GOP strategy is here; do they?

The GOP strategy is to stay in power no matter what.

Seems his mark on history of choice might be mainstreaming actual theocratic government at the federal level. It has worked at the state level, and the current SCOTUS seems to be very theologically motivated right now.
Past that, I'm guessing status quo business as usual but with extra brinksmanship and light dysfunction.
He can't actually break the system, because his ideals are wildly unpopular and without mass support, you need the legitimacy granted by the system to take power. Nor is the system fully ready to hand control to the High Sparrow. So, nothing significant changes, except for the rhetoric. Increase acceptance, bend the system to your will over time.
The appearance of dysfunction through brinksmanship also markets pretty well to a certain part of the population, while spreading the idea that the system should be reformed in the near future.
