Anyone here every do one? Thoughts, advice, tips would be very appreciated. In particular how much planning went to the logistics of re-supplying, how much money did you spend. Physically I believe I am capable of doing it in 4-5 months. I have a good amount of experience hiking in the blue ridge mountains in NC. Longest I was out in nature was 3 weeks straight. I can bow drill and I'm good at bear hangs, that kind of stuff. Hopefully someone responds to this! Feel free also to PM me I would love to talk in depth to anyone who has done it. Thanks!

In China there would be bike rentals at the crossroads with directions to a grocery.

I've always wanted to. I've hiked a number of different sections on both overnights and day trips.
There's a really cool Nat Geo article about it from the 70's, I'm sure things have changed a bit since then.
Do you have any ideas about which direction and what sort of timeframe you're considering?
If I were seriously considering this, I think my first move would be to buy all the trail maps for the entire route and start poring over them...

I’m thinking south to north, leaving like mid-March. I live about an hour away from the start of the trail. You wanna go with me?

A lot of people leave before that. I stayed near the trailhead in late Feb 2020 (Len Foote hike-inn is super cool BTW), plenty of people were leaving to start their hike then.

Lots of people start in March. But lots of people also hit snow. So be prepared and have plans to get off trail and wait out storms if need be.
Definitely keep an eye on the forecast.
Doubt I'll ever hike the trail but after I'm done with my training program for work I hope to hit a 100 mile section I've already day hiked some just cuz it's so freaking beautiful.
It's less appealing to me than it would have been 20 years ago or so because there's way more people doing it. I prefer a little more seclusion on my hikes.

Highly recommend books from people who have done it if you want to know alot about the trail. Guide books if you want to keep the atmosphere as a surprise.
