Also, not to get all soap-boxy, but it's a mined clay that goes through a massively energy-intensive process to transform it. And it's also not a good thing to breathe in. So I try to avoid it for any applications where it's not necessary.

I have a similar issue with peat. Peat mining is an environment disaster and is banned in most European countries, so most of our peat comes from Siberia. Mining it releases an extreme amount of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere and butchers the local ecosystem to the point it basically becomes a wasteland. Feels bad man.

Incidentally - on the shoeboxes - my journey this last year was started on PF tek in SFC, now long since abandoned but good for getting started -  and then to shoeboxes as they seemed so easy - and they are.

But this EZY Dial Mono Tub linked in Beefs thread here seems a good compromise, it doesnt have a lot of fart arsing about with tape and so on, only a few holes to drill - Ive opted for 25 litre tubs, which is I fairly equivalent on quarts, so not too big - be interested to see how they handle the FAE and humidity.  Straight to fruiting conditions too - in a nutshell, looking for the 'do as little as possible' tek...

Right on.

I had such horrible contamination issues at one point that I became completely paranoid about mixing any of my quarts together, even if they came from the same master. So I wanted every single quart isolated in its own shoebox. Then I got used to how easy it was to stack and rotate shoeboxes, and also started geeking out on running multiple clone lines from multiple strains. So now it's become the best way to grow out a bunch of different culture lines at once without being completely overwhelmed! Plus, they actually fit in my sink and dishwasher, which I find very helpful for overall workflow (working in a small inner-city house).

While Ythan is looking into the links issue with iPhones, GenesisCorrupted and geokills both report that from their iPhones the links don't work when viewing with the iPhone in Portrait mode, but they DO work when you are viewing the post in Landscape mode. So, those of you with iPhones that are having trouble with the links, please try them in Landscape mode and report back.

Here is the link to the thread where this is reported.

Links work as designed in landscape but not in regular positing on IPhone for me.

Thanks HBO. Does the site look fine on iPhones in Landscape? I'm curious because even though I have android and the links work in both modes, I find the posts easier to read in landscape. For any site where I'm just reading text, really.

It seems fine in landscape. I usually use it held normally. Some thing I have noticed is to access the search function in my messages folder the phone must be held in landscape or the search bars do not show up.

I get the same thing on android. No search boxes on Message page in Portrait. It looks intentional. It's a busy page, even more so in Portrait, so I assume it is for lack of space. I've always used this site in Landscape just because I think it's better, like many other sites, depending on the page style and amount of text on the screen.

We should somehow force new registrants to read this thread before they can even get to the forums... would save a lot of time.

"great success" is relative.  Personally I dont consider success great until I can no longer see the substrate.

i think that's a great idea. maybe completing 9/10 or 10/10 of context specific questions out of a pool of 30-40. make 5 of them the most popular FAQ.

Forcing and pressuring people is never a good idea.

Let alone forcing them to take a quiz in order to get access to a site that has the answers to the questions in that quiz.

Well, technically, access to the site is completely wide-open. You can read basically everything except OTD and the Marketplace without ever registering. I lurked for about 5 years before even registering.

That said, I do kind of agree. I'd be annoyed at taking a quiz before registering, even if I knew all the "right" answers.

Unfortunately, I think snarky responses to the aggressively ignorant is probably the best we're gonna do. Even if we had other requirements, we'd just have a flood of "yeah, I read that fake news and answered all the questions, but that was just to tell you how closed-minded you're all being, maaaan...."

Just wanted to add a few more thanks:

The quarters on the PC weight is nothing short of amazing! Started a new Huatla experiment this weekend and was literally laughing out loud at how I had never thought of that before! Life changing =)

I am excited to try these 16qt containers as I've been using way oversized monos for years (66qt) (My wife thanks you as well...)

I've got my agar supplies on the way and wondering what a fool-proof-noob agar recipe might be? I like to keep things simple. Will a BRF recipe work just fine? What say thee BEEF!? What is your go-to recipe? Did I miss that? If so, humble apologies...
