Sound like a good one to me. Just the bit of growing Iβve done made for some noticeably different behavior between varieties of cubensis.

Hello, sorry for this question, but. Just reading your op now. About the beefier tub. You said the tub is 16quart, but you add 12quart and the sub volume is still no more than 1/3 of the tub?

yeah. this whole discussion comes up often. a loose, non-packed "myco quart" is a crude unit of measurement we use. this needs to be addressed. thanks for poking a hole.

Yeah, I put ONE myco-quart into a "6 quart sterilite"
And load 10 quart-jars into my "23 quart presto."
A real "Who's on 1st" type situation lol

I measure out my coir, water and grains to the gram. But when I post here, I still reference certain gram ratios as 1:4 or 1:6, which they arenβt, just so most here can approximately relate to what Iβm doing.π€£

The myco-quart is a US quart (946 mL) jar of grain spawn filled to two thirds, as I understand it. That makes it 631 mL of grain spawn.

well unless we're talking about coir... see this actually is an issue. mommy has been going on about it for months. I think I will try to address the issue when I get a chance to sit down and write. definitely deserves some attention

My mycoquart is slightly less than the standard quart because I have 900 mL jars. I still fill them to two thirds. For a "coir quart" I use a 1 liter scoop.
1:3 is one of my personal myco quarts to three of my personal coir scoops.

Coming from a science background I mostly agree, but in this particular case I find myself caring very little actually. Liters and quarts are semi interchangeable, measuring by volume and the different densities of grains and substrates make the margins way too big so it all evens out in the end.
Unless I were to do some kind of experiment, then I would measure everything by weight.

Mommy wants everything by weight and I tend to agree that it would make sense, but not everyone has a high cap scale. I personally dont care either and I know what people are talking about when theyre talking about it too, but my perogative is not for me and my experience--its for the noobs. Ive taken a vow to help spread the gospel, and this inconsistency will not suffice.

I agree that a precise, universal, meticulous scientific approach is required.
Which is why I use the universal standard of "grain loosely dumped in by the spoonful until its filled up to between the top and the bottom of the big cursive "B" on the side of the Ball jar"
To this day, I still have never bothered to look on the other side of the jar where there are actual measurements lol

Itβs been addressed. My teks use precise weight. Most people just donβt care for precise weight when it comes to coir, etc. It makes sense why very few do it the way I do. When I made my own soil for cacti, I never weighed out the different ingredients. It was just scoops. I just use weight with my grain jars and shoe boxes because I like the repeatability. Thatβs mommyβs sticking point as well.

Compression greatly reduces the volume of the substrate.

On the topic of mycoquarts and coir, the thing I needed to know most was how much dry coir would it take to hydrate to the necessary amount to fill my tubs.
