I guess God hates me, because I've taken some of those shortcuts.

Lmao. I make a good salary in tech but I am still a cheap ass that does not like to spend much more than necessary. I will say those LC that are sold are really good though.

This thread is right where it belongs. The first thing you see on Mushroom Cultivation, thanks again Beef for making the most comprehensive guide on the Shroomery. I would just like to recommend you to exercise caution when adding information. You do not want to overwhelm the noobs, something that has happened with bod's stickies in the past because there is so much information there.

The myco-quart is a US quart (946 mL) jar of grain spawn filled to two thirds, as I understand it. That makes it 631 mL of grain spawn.

My mycoquart is slightly less than the standard quart because I have 900 mL jars. I still fill them to two thirds. For a "coir quart" I use a 1 liter scoop.
1:3 is one of my personal myco quarts to three of my personal coir scoops.

Coming from a science background I mostly agree, but in this particular case I find myself caring very little actually. Liters and quarts are semi interchangeable, measuring by volume and the different densities of grains and substrates make the margins way too big so it all evens out in the end.
Unless I were to do some kind of experiment, then I would measure everything by weight.

B Traven said:-It's worthwhile to get your particular coir ratio dialed in to how you like it. I found vermiculite to be a crutch that was ultimately more trouble and expense than it was worth. Also, not to get all soap-boxy, but it's a mined clay that goes through a massively energy-intensive process to transform it. And it's also not a good thing to breathe in. So I try to avoid it for any applications where it's not necessary.
I have a similar issue with peat. Peat mining is an environment disaster and is banned in most European countries, so most of our peat comes from Siberia. Mining it releases an extreme amount of CO2 and methane into the atmosphere and butchers the local ecosystem to the point it basically becomes a wasteland. Feels bad man.
