Pinning on bottom of casing
    #2849805 - 07/02/04 12:48 AM (19 years, 8 months ago)

I made the mistake of using a clear "shoebox" for casing and now it's pinning on the bottom. Am I going to have any problems as they grow? :1up:

Not really. Maybe you can flip the casing around if there are no pins on top.

Light will still travel through the edge of the box so blacking out the underside wont help. Wrapping the thing in tinfoil would help but pinning alread started so thats too late too.

Yeah I covered the bottom today but those babies are growing! I was thinking of flipping it over but just wasn't sure if it was a good idea.

I had this happen once, because the foil on my container got a tare in it on the bottom.

I set the cake on some wet coir, with the pins still on the bottom.
When I went to pic the Big boomers off the cake, I noticed that many had grown completely under the cake, originating from near the center of it. These shrooms were extremely long.

I hypothesize that by setting the cake, with the already formed pins facing down, they were hidden from any direct light. They continued to grow, inching their way towards the very small amount of light that they can see, coming from the sides of the cake. When they finally reach the edge of the cake, and the head is getting some direct light, they will grow continue to grow to almost 2 times their current length.
