Newsom Vetos Bill That Would Have Allowed Food, Drinks at Cannabis Cafes October 9, 2023 - San Francisco Standard
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have opened the door for cannabis businesses to serve food and nonalcoholic drinks.
The bill, AB 374, was authored by Assembly member Matt Haney, D-San Francisco. It would have permitted local city governments to decide whether to allow small cannabis retailers to "diversify their businesses with food and nonalcoholic drinks," Haney told The Standard in September.
Haney initially announced the bill in early February and cited the 700 cannabis cafes across the Netherlands, which typically draw 1.5 million tourists each year to the famously tolerant nation widely regarded as the world’s cannabis paradise.
Additionally, the legislation would have given small cannabis businesses the green light for live music and other performances.
But Newsom rejected the bill, saying: "I appreciate the author's intent to provide cannabis retailers with increased business opportunities and an avenue to attract new customers. However, I am concerned this bill could undermine California's long-standing smoke-free workplace protections."
He added: "Protecting the health and safety of workers is paramount. I encourage the author to address this concern in subsequent legislation. For this reason, I cannot sign this bill."
Haney responded to news of the veto with a tweet: https://twitter.com/MattHaneySF/status/1711161437723283608
Haney, D-San Francisco, has said the bill was meant to allow struggling cannabis businesses to diversify away from the marijuana-only 'dispensary' model and "bring much-needed tourist dollars into empty downtowns."
In a statement released Sunday, Haney said, "Californians are proud of our state's wine culture, and we do everything we can to make sure that our winemakers receive the support they need -- we need to be doing the exact same thing for cannabis. If we don't start better supporting these businesses we are going to lose decades of being at the forefront of the cannabis movement and other states will be ready to swoop in and take it from us."

FYI Newsom is on a rampage right now working towards his own personal political ambitions for a presidential run over the well being or wants of his constituents, or the 30 million people in California.
He knows if he allows these bills to go through, which the people of California want, that he'll be attacked for it during his presidential run. So he's shifting towards the center and more conservative to serve his own purposes.
I mean Newsom is DNC centrist scum through and through, will fuck his people over for his own gains, and then go "What are ya gonna do, vote Republican?" as millions of people reluctantly vote for him to keep the GOP out of power.

Amsterdam rules I love coffee shops
Remember folks California has shisha (hookah) lounges that are exempt from smoke free workplace laws. My city does that shit too, no to hash bars but ok for that shit.

Quote:
smoke-free workplace protections
Tell applicants that they will be exposed to smoke, heavy lifting, loud noise, or (fill-in-the-blank) hazard, instead of hiring frequent complainers who say they didn't sign up for that (pot smoke in pot bar.)
