I'm big on dancing, playing guitar, skating, exploring, and being active. I just don't gel well with cubes and nats.

I only care about subtropicalis at this point. It's potent and I don't need to eat a disgusting tasting fruit. Just need to put my subjective experience on it. Almost like individual chemistry has a big role.

I actually took a few about a month ago, but they sat out in the open for a week so they might need a little cleaning idk havenโ€™t tried them yet, but Iโ€™d be happy to send one.

Lmao yeah I had a package from him take like 11 months   it definitely got lost or something though cuz he sent a second one that showed up months before the first one did.

Good looking out rockyfungus.

My sample size is way too small, at one grow of nats. But I will add to the not a great vibe camp. My source for this culture also had a poor outcome as well, so maybe there is something to genetic variability and a different culture would have a different effect. Or like you said, it could be personal tastes or chemistry that cause it to be more pleasant for some or less so for other folks.

Just to fill in some details. I made a batch of subtrop gummies and a batch of nat gummies on the same weekend. Since the nats were new to me, I tested those solo and shared the subtrops at a festival. Everyone else was having a great time, but it was kind of bringing me down. So I eventually switched to the sutrops and caught up with my friends. Could just be the wrong setting for nats, but it was great for the subtrops, for me with that batch, anyhow.

I am reserving judgement until I can increase my sample size. But it is hard to invest a lot of time and effort into any more cubes or nats when there are reliably enjoyable species like subtrops and tamps out there. Now I am excited to get a good pan bisporus and BVI grow and journey under my belt.

Not hatin', just sharing my experience so far.

After a few reasonably sized fruits my cakes started pushing out tiny ones.  My grain jars are finally noc'd, but it'll be a long time before I have a fruiting tub, so I'm hoping to get a second flush from the cakes.

Having lifted them out to harvest the larger fruits, the cakes look pretty gnarly right now as you can see

Has anyone else grown on cakes?  If so (or even if not)...

When I cut these tiny fruits off I'm not sure whether to leave the 'fluff' or cut that off too.

If I leave it on, should I re-roll after the soak?

If nobody knows, I'll try different approaches with different cakes and report back, but as there's only 8 cakes and it'll be weeks before I have tubs ready, I'd sooner not lose them if I can avoid it.

Thanks guys.

Re: Psilocybe natalensis [Re: Janus62]
    #28497292 - 10/09/23 06:11 AM (4 months, 6 days ago)

I realised today that I needed to harvest what was there or risk it going rotten.

As soon as I removed them from the tub it was apparent that the overlay was thick and sodden, and that there were pins underneath it that were being reabsorbed before they got to see the light of day.

On a couple, there were already some new pins that had squeezed through where the overlay was thinner due to my earlier harvest.

I made an executive decision - the cakes were still well hydrated, so I got a big pair of scissors and trimmed them right back to the virmiculite I'd rolled them in after they were birthed and dunked.  They now look clean & fresh  even if they produce nothing further, at least my need for tidyness has been addressed.

I should know in a week if my cakes are doomed, or if cutting off all the snotty overlay was all they needed.  I'll let you all know as I'm sure I won't be the only one to grow some nats on cakes whilst waiting for enough agar plates to go to grain.

They really are aggressive - 3 days after being hacked with a big pair of scissors...

I posted that to show that's it's fae related, check the rest of that post.

That's the same culture that gets me large fruit.

How common is it to get a natalensis culture that just wont pin? Ive went back to spore 2 times and always the same result. Id like even a single tiny fruit just to clone.

From what Ive seen it doesnt seem like it should be this difficult. I had gotten overlay but realized with no top layer/pseudo casing I got no overlay. But still no fruits.

I had this January before last for LAGM, couldnโ€™t get them to pin at all just a mass of overlay and metabolites. Hereโ€™s a pic:

Went back to spore and the exact same problem.

Got spores from another source and pinned without issue.

Couldn't agree more with you. There is a reason why Natalensis are on my top 3 after semps and pans. In fact, i prefer nats over pans when life gets rough. The positivity serum emanating from them can be deeply healing, almost addictive. Bless them dearly.

PS,
The heavy body load isn't a joke but then again, i make sure to stay mobile doing yoga, deep breathing and some walking around my place whenever possible. The reward is worth it.
