Please someone help me! Why are my mushrooms still coraling?
    #28486387 - 09/29/23 02:40 AM (3 months, 28 days ago)

Hey guys,

I'm new here and I created an account because I keep banging my head against the wall and can't seem to figure this out.

My tent is 80x80x160cm, which should be 1.024m3.

The exhaust fan I initially had was a 10cm fan rated at 98m3/h. I had even more coraling with it and I replaced it with one that was 12cm, at 150m3/h.

The mushrooms started growing way better when I installed it but when they grow to a certain size, I still get coraling.

The fan is on 24/7.

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I am about to get another fan right now at 200m3/h because I really needed this harvest to be right.

Please please help me!

do you have a circulation fan going inside your FC? Without a circulation fan in a smaller FC even with a correct speed of exhaust it will still cause FAE issues.

Also your fan speeds? can you say what that all means in inches and ft? I don't use metric.
Also the smaller FC's like what you have, I did convert that to inches. Those are a pain to dial in perfect because of the smaller size.

Thanks for the reply.

Tent size converted:
31"x31"x63" - 36ft3

- Fan speed = 88CFM (Not actual 88CFM because of Russian fan, that's what I was told by the store clerk. It must have been lower but above 57CFM because that was the very first fan I ever used and replaced quickly.)

- Replacement Fan speed = 117CFM (Didn't work, as it was way too strong and it sucked up all the moisture in seconds.)

- 3rd replacement Fan speed, again (88CFM, except it seems to be actual 88 this time, as it was slightly too strong.)
I added saran wrap around it with a smaller hole cut in the center to throttle it down, and it seems to work but only time will tell..

Air circulation:

I have two openings on each side, on the bottom of the tent, covered by a thin filter to keep it a bit cleaner.

I was hoping that the air coming in through each side would create two streams that would mix the air in the tent, as it gets sucked up through the exhaust. That way I wouldn't need a fan inside the tent to mix it.

When I look inside, I can see the mist swirling.

Your third exhaust fan sounds good. Sounds you got its speed under control by using the tape to restrict air flow as needed. I like the variable speed fans myself. Makes dialing in the FCs much easier. But yea you will still need a circulation fan to get all the CO2 away from the mushrooms. It doesn't need to be strong. I even need one for larger FCs too. And I have run tons of experiments on trying not to use a circulation fan...

OH. The pic on my avatar is from a FC basically the same size as what you are using.

Thanks for the info, I really appreciate it.

The pic in MY avatar is also the best mushroom I ever grew, in this same tent..

My problem started when I added more bags, naturally.

I'll take your advice and add a tiny fan inside. Hopefully that solves the problem.

One last question, does it matter that much if the extractor fan is on the top, or on the bottom of the FC?

I understand that CO2 is heavier than O2 but from what I have read, it's not that black and white, as air is air and it circulates regardless.

I just can't find any definitive answers, whether the extractor fan 100% needs to be on the bottom, or if it's fine on top.

Thanks again!

Technically it doesn't matter if you have enough fan speed and all that, but if your mist is piped in from the top with the fresh air and drops down, thus falls on the mushrooms and the exhaust pulls that down to your mushrooms and out, I think you will have the better success.
kinda a 'natural' mist rain situation.

oh don't blow the circulation fan directly at the mushrooms, but face it towards the wall or something like that. So you don't dry your mushrooms out with direct fan on them.
