 Are meter fairies illegal?

I know this is probably technically supposed to go into the "LAW" forum but I thought it was a pub topic. For those of you who dont know what a meter fairie is, they are people who go around to parking meters and put change into expired meters which is occupied by a vehicle so they dont get a ticket. Pretty cool huh  . NOw I wouldnt usually think this would be illegal but I remember an episode of Jackass when Steve-O dressed up like a fairie and was skippin around puttin change everywhere when a jackass cop detaiend him stating it was illegal for him to do this. Was the cop just BS'ing or is there actually a law that says you cant put change into expired meters?

I have heard this before (from a slightly more reputable source than Jackass), but I don't think it's a federal law. So it may vary depending on where you live. But yeah, it's probably illegal. They WANT to write tickets for expired meters, it's how they make money.

I used to live in Cincinnati Ohio and remember this old lady getting arrested and prosecuted for doing this..... pretty fucked up if you ask me.

yeah a clown went around doing it in this town where I used to live, and he either got ticketed or arrested
