Grain Bucket and Coir Bucket... Keep separate?
    #28477889 - 09/21/23 05:21 PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

Someone mentioned that I shouldn't use a grain hydration bucket to make substrate... If I did, to use a liner...

Ok, cool, I can do that.... But why?  Anyone know?

I asked the person who told me this, and they said a cultivator told them. I asked the cultivator who supposedly told them, and he said, "It wasn't me!"

Because the grain soak will leave residual nutrients in the bucket. Those will make your coir prone to contamination. Molds don’t grow too well on coir, but love the starches in grain water and grain dust.

Soap and water will do the trick for cleaning though, right? Or do I need to iso spray it down?  I use 2 buckets simultaneously sometimes, and I'd like to avoid getting a 3rd I won't really use in a small space.

Hot water and soap will work well to clean it as long as there are no deep scratches. I think most are not washing buckets out. You shouldn’t have a problem if you wash well after using it for grain.
