I know I messed up but how can I recover?
    #28477817 - 09/21/23 04:07 PM (1 year, 3 months ago)

Guys this is a new PE batch I did. Unmodded shoebox. Slightly smaller than the perilite.

I forgot to put a liner!! I’m so dumb. It was too late when I realized.

The fruiting is starting at mostly the sides but a few pins at the top under the matting.

So how much did I screw up and how do I recover from this?

What should I do to remedy this and that it doesn’t happen again?

I did 2 top layers on this btw. Both top layers were colonized. This is a 1:1 grain spawn substrate ratio. With like another 1 quart of top layer.

I wouldn't fret too much over some side pinning, happens to us all at variable rates. Make some tea or grind them into microdose since they are ugly but usually just as potent! Bod's easy af guides give a lot of good examples of how the liner is only a crutch for improper surface conditions, so with some trial and error for your specific grow conditions you could erase that step from your process completely if you so choose. Focus on dialing in your surface conditions and the amount of side pins you see should fall, liner or not!

Yeah I can't figure out the proper surface conditions yet. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Am I not misting enough? not fanning enough? is it the relative humidity?

You can avoid a liner for first flushes, but when the sub inevitably contracts, side pins become a problem.  After first flush, it's much harder to maintain good surface conditions, and the micro climate on the sides is hard to compete with.  A liner that shrinks with the sub can potentially stop side pins on multiple flushes.

@Zav3r - Don't fan. Only mist if you don't have beads of water on the surface mycelium.  Ideally you shouldn't have to mist at all before the first flush is done.  Surface Conditions.

You said "ideally" you shouldn't/dont mist. however the info in the link says to mist on occasion when needed. Please clarify? thanks

Exactly what he said. Ideally you’re FAE is dialed and your substrate was properly hydrated. Then you can just leave your shit alone until you have fruits. If you have too much FAE or your substrate was too dry, your surface conditions may be off (too dry). Then you may mist. Get your surface back on point. You should also dial back your FAE so you don’t have to continue to mist. Misting regularly to maintain surface conditions means you did something wrong. It should not be a part of your routine.
