Do you need to pasteurize wood pellet substrate?

I have two quart jars of golden oyster mycelium on grain spawn. I was wanting to transfer it to buckets using wood pellets as substrate. Can I just hydrate the pellets without pasteurizing?

Use boiling water to hydrate to 60%. Follow lipas fuel pellet tek (give it a search)
Moist wood pellets will contaminate without at least pseudo-pasteurization.

I'd recommend at least pasteurizing the sub before hand. I use bags but this is the recipe I use 2 pounds pellets 907g 2 pounds 13 oz water 1276g (140% of pellet weight) 1/2t gypsum 2g (0.22% of pellet weight) 1 level cup wheat bran 57g (6% of pellet weight) I usually add all the dry ingredients, then pour boiling water through and funnel and impulse seal it. Let that come to room temp and then inoculate it with spawn.

I grow Oysters on straw pellets. My understanding is the manufacturing process of pellets acts as pasteurisation due to extremely high pressure & heat.
I've grown many Oyster logs with just hot water mixed with pellets & they almost never succumb to contamination before third flush. Oysters are extremely hardy.
This may be different for wood pellets however, just sharing my experience.
Depending on what you can source in your area straw pellets may be a cheaper & more effective option depending on the type of Pleurotus you're cultivating.
Eryngii for example grow noticeably better on hardwood from what I've read however Ostreatus are less concerned.

I had success with shiitake in a shoebox and garbage bag by just hydrating wood pellets with boiling water in the container/bag I grew them in and mixing in some grain spawn and have been meaning to try it with an oyster culture I have. The garbage bag got some contam on the 3rd flush, but I really half assed that whole grow outside. No contam in the shoebox.

With Shiitake huh? Nice I always thought they were more fussy. So when you say shoebox and garbage bag which part was used for what, and how long did it take to fruit this way?
