Outdoor Cultivation based on Symbiotic Mycorrhizal Relationships
    #28471992 - 09/17/23 07:26 AM (4 months, 9 days ago)

Hi all

I'm currently working on a project based on creating symbiotic mycorrhizal relationships with local trees by planting fully colonised mycelial blocks next to the favoured species of tree of that particular fungi, with the aim of increasing biodiversity & of course cultivating beautiful mushrooms to eat!

Currently I'm researching mushrooms that like growing alongside Oak, specifically Cork Oak.

Amanita Caesarea aka Caesar's Mushroom seems to be a fairly well documented to grow well with Cork Oak & is a choice edible to boot.

I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions or advice for the project, I would love to hear any opinions also.

Thanks for reading :mushroomgrow:

I think adult trees already have mycorrhizal relationships and planting a colonized block near a mature tree will have a low success rate.

Inoculating saplings and then planting them is more likely to be successful imo.

Thanks for the intel Dave. Have you tried this yourself? If so what method of inoculation would you recommend for saplings?

i havent tried this myself. I would start with pasteurized or sterilized soil, inoculate with a liquid culture or mix colonized substrate throughout and then use this soil for potting bare root saplings or seeds. allow seeds to germinate and grow or saplings to age several weeks/months before planting outdoors.

I see. Well I better get started inoculating some saplings then eh.

Thanks again for the advice.
