Two monotubs have concerns
    #28469728 - 09/15/23 08:25 AM (1 year, 3 months ago)

I recently colonized two tubs using Grain to CVG. My tubs look and smell healthy, they have been in fruiting conditions for two days, but I just can't help think that they look strange to me. Maybe cause I'm new to growing, or what but I don't see a lot of images of colonized tubs that look like mine. Any feedback, words of encouragement, or help would be appreciate

- I used GT syringe to inoculate my grain bags
- at 100% colonization of my grain bags i then proceeded to do my s2b
- this colonization of the bulk took about 6 days, and i then put it into fruiting conditions.
- have not noticed any smells, smells earthy and like mushrooms.
- no discoloration

2nd monotub

Again.

What are you trying to grow?

How did you get here? Spore to grain? Spore to agar? LC? Do you have pics of your agar or spawn?

What is your sub and how did you prep it?

Judging by the inflatable fruiting chamber I’m not optimistic. You’re right most grows do not look like yours. Give us more info and we can give you more specifics.

These are GT's

I used syringe to grain.

the grain to coco coir vermiculite gypsum - prepped by boiling water and leaving to pasteurize the bulk for 24hrs before I transferred my grain to the monotub.

also what's wrong with an inflatable monotub?

This is the only picture I have of the grain I used.

Spores to grain is not recommended. Spores are never sterile, so there is a high likelihood of contamination. Your spawn is at the least bacterial. When the mycelium doesn’t fully cover the grains as in your pics, it’s usually because there is something else already growing on those parts of the grain.

When cube myc gets all thick and creamy over the top of the substrate like that, I always think it’s trying to get away from something else growing in your substrate. Probably the bacteria that came in on your spawn.

What’s wrong with inflatable tubs? They are overpriced. You can’t move them without breaking up your sub. You cant stack them. If you nick the walls with your knife or scissors when harvesting, it’s trash. You really can’t easily dial in your FAE for your local conditions. They are a pain in the ass to clean. Other than that, they’re great!

Will it pin? I also want to add that this colonization was around 6 days after I s2b. Also, I waited till my spawn got 100% colonized before mixing it with my substrate.

Will it pin? Maybe. Only one way to find out. Six days seems kind of quick. May turn green soon.

Yea i dont know, the whole cake is colonized basically, I don't see it turning green. Theres good humidity. I was reading it could be overlay? But apparently overlay is really rare on cubes. Then I was reading to fork it. But idk that seems a bit abrasive. The mycelium bruises easily.

instead of a spore syringe would a LC be better?

Using agar to get a clean culture before going to hrain would be better. Even if you get an LC it should be tested on agar. If you don’t want to do the work you can shoot spore to PF cakes.

You already forked it.

Just...leave it. Wait. Do absolutely nothing to it. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Don't think about it. Think about pink elephants or something.

Humidity is great for the bacteria as well as what myc you have in there fighting the good fight. If you get something, what are your plans for storage? Future generations? Agar? Dehydrator?

Do I want to know what forking it is? I can guess...
