Humidifier vs Misting.
    #28469610 - 09/15/23 07:06 AM (1 year, 3 months ago)

So I'm trying to figure out how to maintain the perfect micro-climate for fruiting.

I know I have to get the top misted, and then it has to dry and then misted again. And that is the stimulus for fruiting.

However, I don't know how the RH plays a role in this. How will my humidifier affect this at all? Should I keep the humidity high even though I'm already misting and introducing FAE?

Or the humidifier doesn't really matter much because I'm applying the misting anyway?

Thanks a lot.

Edit: I'm growing PE's and cubes

This is false. If you are growing cubes the moisture in the substrate is a better route for providing humidity than misting or using a humidifier. Letting the surface dry out doesn’t help.
The reason growers use humidifiers with gourmets is because most of them prefer more air exchange than cubes.

I swear, everyday I encounter some kind of misinformation or contradiction that I don't even know what's going on anymore. So I shouldnt mist my cubes?

Where are you looking for all this info? Look here for proven teks that are less than 5 years old. You can limit the age of results found when you use the search function.

PE’s are cubes that grow just a bit different. They like a top layer to prevent blobs, where as regular cubes don’t really need one. I don’t treat my PE any different than regular cubes. All of mine get a top layer at spawn. Blobs are active, so I just dry them and use them if I get them.

You should definitely mist if your sub is drying out, but the ideal situation is to properly hydrate your sub and dial in your monos so passive air flow maintains good surface conditions until fruit mature. I spawn, toss the lid on, and wait. I might take the lid off to shoot a pic to share, but no fanning and no misting. Low tech is just so easy and the results are just as good as anyone’s overly complicated humidifying contraptions. This is true for cubes only, by the way. Most exotics and gourmets will require more air exchanges that will necessitate humidification.

I'm sorry but the information out here gets overwhelming.

Youtube says to fan the tub. The tek I saw here says just leave it like that and let passive air exchange do the work. No fanning and minimal misting. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/22337800

My worry is that I'm using the small 6 qt sterilite shoebox. Maybe I don't have enough free air at the upper half of the box to get all that humidity and passive air movement going. This is of course compared to the larger monotubs in the guides. So my worry is that because I have a smaller shoebox, I will have less moisture to go around with and less free air to push that moisture around.

That's why I went ahead and built myself a grow tent to control the humidity of all my shoeboxes. thoughts are very much welcome

Why did you come here if you’re gonna take advice from YouTube seriously 🤷♂️? If everyone here can do fine with a shoebox…why not you?

If you’re using a shoebox look at a shoebox tek, not a monotub tek.

YouTube is gateway. I didn’t really know where else to look. Now I’m finding this but it’s kinda a lot of info and some are even contradicting and confusing

Thanks. I was thinking that since they’re both plastic boxes, the tek would be pretty much the same. I didn’t think it would be different drastically.

I’ll definitely read this

Make sure you’re looking at relevant and updated information. Lots of old stuff in here, a lot of which was the best information they had to work with at the time would be flat wrong with what we know now. There is a lot of just bad info on you tube, Reddit, and Facebook that gets unchecked and circulated widely. Here on the shroomery if someone is posting misinformation, or even just bad advice it gets checked and folks will pitch in on why it’s bad or wrong😉 for the most part. Most social media posting is based on what draws the most attention and trigger emotional responses of the readers and viewer not what’s right and wrong, they live off what traffic. For the most part cultivation information on here is based around what works and good info. But the shroomery isn’t perfect.
As far as relevance, make sure you’re seeking information on what you’re trying to grow and how. Some people use Martha tents for cubes and do just as well as people using monos, some fruit in bags, lots of people use totes and shoeboxes,  large commercial grows can do things using methods I’ve never seen on here, so there are a lot of ways to do things and it’s easy to cross different methods and lots of times that leads to less than the best.
Be observant and patient.
If you find misinformation and contradiction feel free to ask for clarification, pay attention to who says what, take note of their methods results and character. If you don’t have a lot of experience with fungi and cultivation something may seem contradictory but it could just be from your perspective at the moment, but as you gain experience it’ll make sense.

Love this wholesome and honest and just very friendly advice. I really have to filter out the noise. It's really hard to do especially I think for some who are having a harder time than most. some people just ace it straight away and get perfect results the first time. I'm like just barely passing. I get fruits don't get me wrong. but its definitely far from efficient
