Is water droplets in my jars okay?
    #2846940 - 07/01/04 12:35 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

Hi everyone! I have mycelium developing in my jars and there are now water droplets on the sides of some of them. Is that normal? They are simply in a dark space--no extra heat or humidity.

Also, does any one have any links for tub-in-tub incubation? Every time I search for it, it says "no results found."...and I know that can't be right. Also, though not necessary, a direct link to the best PMP explanation would be great.

Thanks!

water droplets is okay so long as it's not excessive in which case you'll get sour rot or other such nastys but i bet you'll be okay. to lazy to link for you but tub in tub is simply a large rubbermaid with some water and a fishtank heater submerged into the water and kept at 86F or so depending on what you're growing then a smaller rubbermaid goes into the bigger one. and pmp is simply a sterlite container with perlite and water in it with a fish tank bubbler and an air wand attached to diffuse the air across the water, along with a plexiglass lid to allow light to pass. simple stuff. where's my scale  good luck :sun:

As john said water droplets are normal, mycelia also excretes waist in the form of a brownish, yellowish liquid. This is also normal, but anything but a sweet shroomy smell or nice whiteness means bad things.

Use the nose.

yeah what he said  what I did was go to wal-mart and get two 25 gallon rubber-maid containers, make sure that they can slide into each other with no problem. Then head to the pet section and get a 50watt submersable water heater. Make sure it is the submersable kind. then fill one of the containers about 1/4 of the way with water. and place the other container inside, make sure the water is high enough to rise up the sides of the container when your pressing down on it, but not enough water to overflow (obviously right ) it will take about 6 hours for the water to get to the right temp, a cheap thermomater is good to get and place it in the top contaner (where you will place your jars) you should be able to get a temp around 85-90 degrees. thats it its really simple and very effective. Also add about a half of a cap of bleach to the water in the bottom tub to stop algee growth and your good to go  ohh one more thing you will need a heavy object to place on top of the container, I use a old computer monitor as its heavey enough to keep the top container pushed down into the other one, but a big rock whatever will work fine

Water droplets are normal.

Here's a link to the incubator:
