Seizure like experience
    #28446561 - 08/25/23 03:25 PM (5 months, 22 hours ago)

Hello dear friends

So after hanging out here for a while and some of my friends having already tried schrooms, me, my best friend , someone who has already tried schrooms and a tripsitter did schrooms.

When we were about 45 minutes in I started to feel them and about 15 minutes later I had something very weird happen to me.

According to my friends they said I was shaking with my entire body for about 5 seconds and in the proces I even fell out of my chair. I however do (maybe luckily) not recall anything of this besides me sort of “rebooting”/waking up after those 5 seconds and seeing my friends stand around me all shocked with blank fases.

Anyone can have any idea what might have happened?

For the record I did still have an amazing trip after this because I did not remember it and thought to myself ah wel best worry about it later…

How did you feel after it?  Did your body hurt - like every single muscle ache?

Psychedelics can cause seizures in people vulnerable to them. You're probably vulnerable to seizures and don't know it. Seizures can be life threatening in and of themselves, so you shouldn't do psychedelics anymore.

You might also want to avoid flashing lights in the future.

I disagree with this.
Instead of diagnosing and coming up with a treatment plan, OP should seek a Neurologist.
Is this something you can do?
The sooner you can get in with one the better.

My main question is, do you take any meds?

I am susceptible to seizures. Psilocybin and cannabis both suppress them for me. I have to worry about dehydration, sleep deprivation, alcohol and caffeine consumption, unresolved stress, being too sedentary, and half a dozen other things. Psilocybes are a non-issue from that standpoint. As are the sort of standard, stereotypical flickering lights (though excessive screen time isn't great for me).

Everyone's brain chemistry and genetics is different, and the things that trigger seizures are pretty widely varied. It's like having a short somewhere in your car's wiring- one vehicle shorts and stalls when you turn on the right blinker in the rain, another when you run the AC and defrost at the same time.

Really, everyone has a seizure threshold, and there are all sorts of substances and situations that may lower one's threshold to the point where they seize up. If your genetically determined threshold is particularly low, then you're more likely to get there. And find out what your triggers are in the process. For example, seizures are significantly more common in tropical developing countries, because electrolyte imbalance and heat exhaustion are some of the most common triggers. Someone with the same genetic predisposition in Norway might never experience a seizure.

So, yeah, assuming it was a seizure (probably), the mushrooms may or may not have had anything to do with it. They may have triggered, exacerbated, or mitigated the event. Or there may have been something else along for the ride on the mushrooms that triggered an allergic reaction.

Given the time of year we're in, regardless of what else you do, I'd recommend securing a decent supply of electrolytes, and watching your hydration level.

Beware of advice- even this.

Well put.

Don't think our newbie is coming back, though.

Can confirm. That's how I found the shroomery.  Ate some, had a seizure, came here lookin for answers.

LSD was oddly enough never a problem for me.  Well, until after my first seizure.  Now I don't do shit

Found out I was seizure prone for sure years later when I took wellbutrien (zyban) to quit smoking and it send me into one hell of a fit.

Definitely.  I've watched people eat only small amounts of mushrooms and have seizures.  Ketamine will lower my seizure threshold a lot unfortunately.

I've seen people white out / faint from a seemingly blood pressure drop.  Didnt involve shaking, but something to consider.

Fainting from mushrooms is relatively common and mostly benign (as long as you don't hit anything on the way down).

Unfortunately seizures in and of themselves are always potentially dangerous. Death resulting from seizures is so common that there's actually a medical term for it: Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy.

Psychedelics have been known to cause seizures in people who are vulnerable to them since they were first medically researched all the way back in the 50s. And it makes sense if you think about it. If flashing lights cause seizures, one can only imagine what a good dose of psychedelics can do... If someone who had a seizure disorder took a sufficient dose of LSD, I have to imagine that's basically like exposing them to perpetually flashing lights that cannot be ignored for 12 hours. If they went into status epilepticus at any point (seizing that doesn't stop) for even an hour without medical intervention, they'd be cooked. Even if they didn't, death from a simple seizure does happen.

Seizures are dangerous, psychedelics can cause seizures in people who are vulnerable to them, so they should be avoided in people with seizure disorders.
