Myceliated grain potency test results Not gonna lie. I am pretty stoked with this result.
Myceliated subtropicalis grain tested with a Miraculix Tests.

Not the strongest thing that we have tested, but this is grain only and we knew that it takes a bit more to equal a full dose. But this is clear evidence that the the myc is active and at a reasonable dose.
Here are some more pictures from the process.

Made some gummies from myceliated grain only this weekend. Hope to sample them next weekend. My grain was wheat and I think the gluten made them extra sticky so I had to double down on the gelatin. But got there in the end.

Thank you so much for this post. I never had any doubt about how active the 3~4 month long consolidated grain is, if only i had some fruits to compare but this gives me the much needed peace of mind and for every consolidated jar, there's one that goes into bulk with fingers crossed. Japanese summers are long, hot and very humid.. and mold loves it. Natalensis thrives on its own outdoor patches, same with other cubes like Red Boy and Rusty Whyte. Heck, even pans like it. Just never had the luck to get Semperviva to fruit indoors or outdoors for that matter. Next plate to try, hopefully.

Quick response to @Astra because I'm away from home for a few days.
Check out my journal, especially the part about pasteurizing coir properly.
Because your agar looks good, your grains look good. It looks like you're having the same issues I had with Semp.
Great job everyone else!!!
Edit: you are also hurting yourself comparing Semp to Natalensis. You have to do everything perfectly to grow Semp, whereas you can almost do whatever you want to grow Natalensis this species being so forgiving!!! I was growing those two at the same time, and Natalensis saved my mental sanity, because at least I had success with it whereas peanuts with Semp

Thank you so much, good sir.. I'm going to read your journal carefully. Its true what you said about Natalensis, they'll literally grow on anything, even on the cap next to them Stay safe

Thank you for the post Reverend!
How long did you age your wheat? I've thought about running millet for grain tek, supposedly millet makes higher % actives??? Plus it should be easier to filter during extraction. Might try milo too?
If you're taking requests, next tests, 3mo old bag of grain vs. 12mo old bag and "fast" vs "slow" genetics. 😀

Hey Yoshi Trainer Funny that you ask. I just used your tek last night to run low prep millet for the first time. Don't think I will be going back to any other preps or grains. I was a hold out because I saw no prep/low prep as a short cut and being impatient usually leads to trouble in this hobby. But with your low prep millet I have been converted. Will know for sure when some plates finish up. Anyone need an unopened bag of wheat?
As to the age of those myceliated grain jars. I just reviewed my logs and confirmed that they were 63 days from inoculation when dried. Inoculated 2023/01/27

Nearly fully colonized 2023/02/06

Harvest and dried 2023/03/31

Vacuum packed in jars until the the test 2023/09/06.

Which may mean that they could get stronger with aging longer than 50ish days. That is another thing to test. Now I have some new grains to try that out on. Will start the 3 month vs 12 month test this evening. Will update in a year. lol
As to fast versus slow: I am still struggling to get any slow to germinate. The grains that you sent are not starting on agar yet. I have had some on plates for over two months and some that I tried rehydrating in dh2o for 48 hours that are not doing anything on plates yet either. Those plates are 17 days old. Going to try some from 3 week dh2o soak tonight. But I fear that the 118 degree weather we had when they were shipped may have been too much for them. I will wait until it cools down to try begging again. Still going to be over 110 here this weekend. (around 45c for you right headed folks)

Not sure if it's ok to ask, but I recently got semps from two :unnamed: vendors, and the cultures are anemic and unusable. Is anyone willing to trade a solid, fast and strong semperviva print for a pan cyan print? (have aus grasstree and MIB at the moment)

What's the secret of your agar technique? It's amazing, your pins fascinate me!
Haha no secrets here I just use undiluted grain water + nutritional yeast. I boil the shit out of some grain until it bursts & turns the water opaque. If I want clear plates I'll add the nooch during the boil, otherwise I'll toss .5-1g in the media bottle. My cultures love it

psilocybist said: If those pins are from equal environmental parameters (agar media, temperatures, light conditions, etc.) then waht we know about this species at all???
Maybe we've found a definite reason why mycelium from this species almost always grows in a near-perfect circular form. The genetic diversity being so dense with it, we see patchy growth and sectoring very rarely on plates.
Yessir same nutes, temp, light, etc. I've noticed little variation in my grows so it's dope to see a difference already with a culture from a different source. I still think we're growing different cuts, so to speak ---
This culture is a clone from pic 1 in my sig, cased with coir + sand. Guess I won't be trying that again

Can you post pictures of the anemic cultures? Semperviva looks different and doesn’t always fill you with confidence.

I'm not sure I snapped any. Perhaps I was a bit harsh in my descriptors. They are contaminated and have been unsalvagable through water agar and gento agar along with serial dilution to clean up to the best of my abilities. I meant the mycelium was too weak to overtake or outrun any of the onboard contaminates imho.

Guys, what do you think of these 3 plates? Anything good in there? Please note the outer border of the right one and the growth at the top-right of the bottom plate; also the growth of that plate is very different from the other 2.

Any hope of having something clean here?

I still didn't dial my grows top notch, but here's my take. My best grows were with a restricted FAE, some jars and boxes were totally sealed, I just opened them now and then after fruit bodies became pretty large. I'd say it depends, but IME low is better, because you don't get curly caps and they don't mature too quick, and when you need spores you increase FAE and mist. If you can provide high rh + high fae that's cool, maybe you'll get bigger fruits with quick growing variety, but if they're slow I'd say stick to low FAE.
