I think there is a variety of factors, including what type of industry the small business is in.
BTW, the US government thinks having over a thousand employees, and making 30 to 40 million (revenue)as a small business.

It's funny because the Dems always marketed themselves as the party for workers and the GOP for small business. They both lied.
At one time the GOP was probably better for small business, if the business was thriving.

I don’t think it matters for small business. My machine shop at one point made like $50k a year. Paying an accountant to screw the system out of tax dollars was way more important than who I voted for.
That said, a lot of business owners vote in ways that aren’t doing themselves any good. My last boss was a great example. He couldn’t understand why he as a business owner with multimillionaire status would want to to pay taxes for single payer healthcare. I had to explain to him that it’s simple, you no longer would spend $100k a year on healthcare as a benefit for your management employees. All he saw though was that he’d potentially have slightly higher taxes for himself. He never could turn down a good write off, meanwhile that $100k would have been in his pocket instead. That’s modern America in a nutshell though.

that is also my experience, if you own a fortune 500 you probably do better with republicans. if you dont own one. and if your name isnt known to people in distant lands, then you are probably not better off with either party per say. also the democrats are better for a certaiin set of big buisness and the republicans for others, theres no such thing as government that is good for small business.

I would say it mostly boils down to who is gonna increase wages and worker protections.
The GOP will continue to be the best party for the capitalist class.

As a small business owner, if you have a physical location, the best party is the local politicians. Donate to them, help them out, give them discounts, and then reap those rewards. My old neighbor was on the board of health in my town, guy had inordinate amount of power over local restaurants and shops that sold food.

Everything you said was 100% true for most people, but not for small business, at least in their minds. They are operating under the assumption that they will be one of the few that makes it big. They don't want inreased wages and worker protections.
Most small business are pawns like the rest of us. For the small business that survives but doesn't prosper beyond middle class status, I think their level of prosperity determines which party better serves their interests. But they vote Republican, for the same reason people play the lottery.

Small business owners aren’t going to be made rich by either party, but if you’re a SBO with thin margins, and the democrats raise the minimum wage, you’re fucked.
I think Ice9 is right about local party support, but the business model is built on exploitation. The more you can exploit the more successful you are. Typically, the GOP allows for more exploitation.

and if you are a SBO and the republicans remove regulations and restrictions from large corporations they will undercut you and put you out of business create juggernaught giant monopolies and put you to work on their assembly line with starvation wages.
enjoy peeing in a bottle? vote republican.
that said the democrats are just as bad but there will be plenty of people to make those arguements.

Sure but those “undercut the small business” policies are built into the model I mentioned. Those with the most wealth have the most power, and the biggest market share. This is the result of globalization and you can’t put that toothpaste back in the tube now.

Biden has put the tooth paste back in the bottle as well as anyone else can. Manufacturing has up ticked just a bit. I never used them but the democrats were the ones that had incentives and loans for small or minority businesses and so like all things, which is better depends on what you are doing.

you: the republicans are better because they remove regulations
me: if you remove the regulations then the bigest companies run smaller companies out of business. but democrats are also bad for small business in other ways... but no the republicans arent better for small business.
you: the problem of global juggernaut monopolies is too big and you cant fix it, so you may as well go with the lack of regulation that will kil lyour small business because you cant really stop it.
me : thats a dumb as fuck arguement.
you: you are saying the same thing i am saying tho.
me : nope.

I never said you can’t fix it, only that neither party wants to.
Which regulation did Republicans remove that negatively impacts small businesses?
Could you be more specific?
Either way, the majority of undercutting small business is done via free trade agreements that both parties support.
But, if you took every blue state/city and replaced it with GOP majorities, no more $15 min wage, no more improved worker protections, etc, there’d be lower taxes which in turn reduce services and protections..
I think it’s pretty obvious the GOP is preferable for small business owners.

not really saying they have. however, what they do is remove regulations on larger companies. for example they have removed some regulations on csx reciently which would have negative effected any contractors that csx may have had to do those safety inspections or corrections.
alot of businesses contract with sbuisnesses to help oversee regulations.
you remove that regulation they are out of a job. if you make it so that a large company needs less workers or does the same thing for less then they can afford to absorb more sectors in the market and remove more competition.
thats just basic economics.

Ok that’s a fair point, I’m just saying the wages are probably more important given both parties are deregulating.
