I’ve tried enigma once, and wow. My visuals were going off the charts, ‘twas gorgeous.

Thx I just had about ten fire alarms go off with that alone. I've read associations of red dirt and pines but bamboo grasses and patches was another spot I considered searching recently. Was a toss up between there and a massive cudzu overhang spot that isn't horribly eaten up but 75 foot down a humongous hill across the street.
I've got sweetgums and pine mixes everywhere but none recently developed and most have 4 inches of good fertile woods dirt over red clay deposits. 😮💨

look through old ga active threads. there's been threads going back almost 20 years. more than enough pics and information have been posted over the years to familiarize yourself with where they grow. Use search function. type in key words like "caeruelscens/weilii habitat" etc

Great recent finds Nitro and Evly.  I’m trying to track down more of those clusters like y’all seem to zero in on.
Blue Falcon is correct about where to look, and provided some excellent advice. Thank you!
Evly is also right, the info to hunt successfully has been dropped like crumbs all along the Ga active threads over the years. I’ve spent a lot of time reading them and looking at pictures to educate myself.  It’s not like we can easily talk to most people about this hobby/obsession, so fellow Ga Shroomerite hunters are some of our best resources. For me, the  research is starting to pay off with small wins here and there.
Keep on grinding Hexical, your persistence will pay off.
Bloody carcass and Kochab, I went back to that spot today and left with purple hands. Have some spots in mind to spread the love around.

Almost forgot to mention but last week the one time I didn’t wear my hat while hunting,  I turned and caught a twig in my eye while searching a graded habitat. It went straight into my tear duct and broke off. Stuck out about an inch. Luckily, I just pulled it out with no pain or residual twig left stuck in. That was a first for me. Pretty wild I wasn’t hurt. The hat would have kept the twig away from my eye (so would shades but there was tree cover around so didn’t have them on either).
Today I didn’t wear pants or a long sleeve shirt and had to jump through some briars to avoid some uniformed individuals who would have questioned me in that location. Got cut up pretty good.
Guess this is a friendly reminder to stay safe and come prepared. Oh yeah, it’s hot so don’t  forget to stay hydrated.

Let’s all go have some fun OutThere!

This...

If you haven't started at the beginning and at least looked through every years photos on each thread then you're missing out on lots. Read through it all and my goodness! you'll be a pro.

Falcon, well put on the habitats. Listen to these people, they know what they are talking about.

You can also think of it this way. These spores didn't originate here and are basically an invasive. You aren't going to find these mushrooms in places that the spores haven't been introduced. Think about how construction is moving a lot of dirt around with tractors/bulldozers/etc. Going deep in the woods where that hasn't been much human interaction won't be your ticket to success.

Think big construction projects like public parks, walkways, boardwalks, new Amazon Facilities... the destructive stuff!

It blows my mind honestly, because one time my pops came home with a little bundle of weilii and was like, “these them? They are bruising blue!” And I was just like wtf, but to break it down. He told me that a few days prior to finding them he had accidentally tore up the ground out by a house he was doing construction at. But it was just like a footprint that he did, nothing major. Then out of nowhere a day or two pass and he sees them and brings it home. I’m astonished to this day about it, and yet I still can’t find any HAHA. I can feel it tho, I’ll have my share of bliss this year.

Another’s destruction is another’s dream.  The irony in that.  Hope Idalia doesn’t cause widespread damage, but bring on the rain!!

Mushrooms tend to thrive on destruction given how some of their habitats look so strange and disturbed, how "destroyed" some riparian habitats appear is interesting.

Found first large patch a few weeks ago, had a distinct smell (but not like cucumbers to me).

Walking today I ran across the most obvious, distinct smell that was EXACTLY like cucumbers. Didn’t see anything but was difficult place to look in woods . Does this happen often?  Do other things smell similar or do you usually have that distinct smell and find them?

The smell for me is too close to smell of freshly cut grass for me to distinguish it. It’s almost identical to me.  Though I’ve learned my sense of smell recently is not best so take with grain of salt ig.
Also never experienced successfully noticing and following scent of caerulescens from a distance, seems really unlikely.
