BES- hope you have a speedy recovery from whatever's going on. Feel free to if you have any questions about anything, neuro rebab is my specialty and I deal with hemiplegia patients (from various ailments) on a daily basis. The brain and body are great at recovering from all sorts of scary stuff
I'm up in Montreal with the wife for the weekend. Had an awesome time. Been stoned and buzzed for most of it, wish I'd brought the 2cb I planned on bringing but the border crossing had me more concerned than I should have been (all they did was say hi and wave me through)
Planning to severely limit my booze soon, like a handful of times a year or less. It does nothing but fuck with anything good I have going on, makes me really anxious and depressed after. Unfocused as hell and my sleep suffers. I'm mostly functional and even now I only drink once a week at most, but I'm wrecked for like 3 days after each time now and I dont bounce back nearly as quickly as I used to. It's going to be a tough one to reel in for me

I forgot to set my Alarm this morning, I woke up at 6am, I wanted to be out the door by 4am to dig up thenext town over, I think they will be anal about me digging holes because they manicure thier parks like crazy, so I want to be digging my holes like 4-7am when no parks people are around
I'll have to do it next week, as I spend the weekdays at a friends house, and theres no where to store my bike while there to get around
Its been a while since I checked the main park in town, I'll go Tuesday morning, check the tot lot and then dig a dozen or 2 holes in the grass around the totlot
Ive only found jewelery in the tot lot and at the shore line in the park, never in the grass yet
And theres decades of pull tabs there and bottle caps, theres no way around digging pull tabs, you just have to dig them out because gold rings up the same as a pulltab
And the bottle caps, you should dig them up too even though they sound bad, because they mask targets underneath or even near them

No, not weird at all, they're masterpieces with lots of space and choice soil. Wish you were able to attend the gathering at my cabin in the Poconos a few years back.. my grandfather, father, and two uncles harvested and shaped the logs as they stacked them. Its been in the family for 40 years. I thought about it when I first got home. Just wanted to go, get away and not see or hear anyone. Just nature. We need that.
Forgive my True North ignorance: How far are you from Algonquin (any mountains?). Not sure your sign- but even a small body of water can help to regulate me. Have you any adventure since moving? Sounds like you need to explore and find your new spot, that is waiting to be discovered.

Waiting to go see my nephew and siblings for the first time in 3 months. I was seeing them like once a week before I left. Little guy is probably too heavy to pick up now, with how sore and tight my back and shoulders are. But I will do it anyway probably.
I'm going to rent a chainsaw next week to both practice for my sawyers test and to take care of some trees that fell in my yard. Gonna have some hella bonfires when it cools down.
Particularly interested in how the cherry wood smells. Sad she came down but a funeral pyre is the least I can do.
Well she actually snapped in half and I'm hoping what's left of the trunk survives. Got a bunch of saplings to transplant too. Bunch of little cedars. The one I transplanted in 2020 is doing great.

Ah I know the feeling, if too much time passes, my niece and nephew are always bigger and smarter. Glad you're home and able to go see them
Am curious, once a tree is cut, how do you dry the wood so it'll burn? Anytime the giant maple leaning into my yard discards a gnarly branch, I get super excited. Someone had the idea to collect pallets from the side of road and cut them to shape for me last year. Prob fire number 6 when I discovered they were loaded with nails. TL;DR, firewood is in short supply and I am sorry for the cherry, but jealous of your future bonfire stash.
And I do think the cherry will grow, give it a season. Will be important to prune accordingly once it starts spitting out branches.
When messing with a tomato I accidentally snapped a good sized branch. I stuck it in soil, thats it. Now its too big for its britches and producing. (Got bit up trying to take a pic, deleted like 30 pics and still cant upload )
Nature will find a way...

They dry out naturally in a couple months the same way any plant matter does. Smaller pieces put in a well ventilated area will dry faster.
Ideal dryness is after the green and moisture has dried out but before it starts to rot. So still sturdy and solid but not wet. I can feel it and see it better than I can explain it.
If you have to burn rotting wood dry rot is better than wet rot but both will just smoulder if the decay is advanced enough. I've tried to burn logs that were basically soil and... Like it works if you have an insanely hot fire. Very slowly and with nasty smoke. ...think what actually happens is the combustible wood left in the thing burns and the soil crumbles to the bottom of the fire pit.
But yeah if you want to do something simple and not terribly labor intensive to help your branches dry just prop them up like / on something. Deadfall is typically already dry and ready to burn by the time the limb falls off the tree.
Pallets are great places to stack wood.
Took my red oak about 6 months to have dry brittle branches. The uncut trunk took about a year. Which is why I need to get to it. Any longer and the rot will gum up and potentially ruin the chainsaw. Advanced rot can increase the potential of kick back which is why we do not cut up decomposing logs in the parks. They are hoisted out with a frontloader or tow chain or pushed with a dozer or sometimes can be snapped by their own weight. And then they're dumped in an out of the way place.

Was forced to toss 3.5 grams of shatter because it reeked of sulfur and other funkiness. What a bummer. I took a hit of it before I realized, here's hoping I don't die

And I'm in Ottawa which has great greenspace unto itself and is close to Gatineau park, which is gorgeous for hiking and cycling in the Quebec hills - it's quite a bit smaller than Algonquin but gorgeous and still great for daytrips - they don't allow camping because I believe the sitting prime ministers cottage is located somewhere in there. Algonquin is out there but only about a 2.5 hr drive - I'd love to get out there, I need to get a new car and some more time though .
I've only seen small slivers of 3 provinces but Canada is so damn empty outside the major population centers - only a 2 hr drive between Montreal and Ottawa, two major cities and it is crazy empty in terms of towns and cities and people - especially to someone who's perpetually used to the US northeast megalopolis.

I went for an outer bound type trip, really ruffed it. One day I drifted from the group and kayaked up to a moose with a full rack, who was eating aqua plants- went a bull moose length away and i marveled, it stared at me while chewing cud. As if it were an every day experience- with where we were dropped off by plane and boat, couldn't have been- we were deep. Had no idea how dangerous they can be, this guy was chill thankfully.
But of my travels, my time there really stands out as one of the most pristine, beautiful landscapes. You should check it.. Must say you make Canuckland sound tempting! Sorry for the shatter was it from a dispensary?? And yeh, pleaze don't die!
feevers- so sorry I had missed your post. Thank you so much for caring and offering to help. How was the weekend, what did yall do in Montréal?
Cookie, what you describe had been my process, but at the rate I burn the drying doesnt happen soon enough! I have a big ol' smoker was thinking of experimenting. I am envious of all that biochar you're going to have- sprinkle it around your cherry stump. Meanwhile I'll be picking nails out of the ashes here.
Going to have to postpone the journey on Wed, I'm no where near the right headspace. Dealing with overwhelming anger to the point that I am furious I'm so rageful Other than that met with DBT 2.5hr long group, before them the shrink, and my dragons need attention. Still trying to find a PT who can get me in sooner than the last but think its time to settle. I am mad about this
Regardless, wandering about in my mind already, scaling the walls.. so the blotter shall wait

I'd happily deliver you a truck load if you were closer.
And I had a truck.
I've been dumping charcoal and compost in a section of yard the prior residents had been using as a dumping ground. If you dig down deep enough it smells like rancid oil and chemicals. Awful stuff. But things have been successfully regrowing there so I think it's working out.
I've filled up two dumpsters of trash in the yard. Every now and then I find more. Cleaning up a place like that really puts it into perspective just how much waste we produce.

Anyone up?
I'm going to try and leave around 330am to head a town over
Theres 4 playgrounds that I know of in that town I want to hit, ive havnt been to any of them yet since I started metal detecting so unless someone else has searched them there should be lots of treasures
My metal detectors backpack strap has broken, I tried to sew it back on with dental floss but I'm afraid it will come undone again
I should bring it to an actual tailor and get it sewen properly, I dont know where one is, perhaps the dry cleaner does something like that

Most dry cleaners do light repair work. Probably easier to just buy a replacement strap off Amazon tho.

And yah landlords are real party crashes, hope there's a resolution for you soon.

Nice. I wrote a program to make it. It's one frame of an animation. I was posting a bunch of stuff like that on Twitter earlier this year but since I started working full time I haven't been active with it. With the most recent stuff the program is a shader that runs on the GPU (on a webpage), so it's more practical to render a lot of animation frames.

The terms I will use are "processing,' and 'coping.' But have had my moments.. mostly when was still trapped in the hospital.. once i realized by signing an AMA my insurance might not cover any of my near weeklong stay. I threw a lamp then spent an hour apologizing
I can now move and almost be able to straighten 2 fingers that were previously frozen, all thanks to feevers sharing some exercises.
Found the perfect place for therapy- comprehensive with western and eastern approaches.. my insurance will cover the PT only there- but not the OT, chiropractic, acupuncture, biofeedback etc. But its one practice over one roof, all doctor staffed. Set me back a week but meet with my 2nd choice's hand specialist on Wed. Whatever it takes, cannot live like this. Tl;dr I hate insurance company policy, not the unfortunate souls that answer the phone/deliver news.
When did twitter become x. What does that mean. Anyway, might have to take your word for it, can't give out my email like thàt sorry.
