What is a gun for?

You bring a gun with you so you can scare off wildlife. Maybe save your life with it if a bear attacks. I would only ever shoot a gun to defend myself or for target practice.
Always respect the weapon. treat it gently & with respect.
Only aim at something you intend to kill or shoot.
Treat every gun as if it is loaded. (go out in the country and it will be.)🤣
If you see somebody handling a gun incorrectly. Intervine immediately if it is safe to do so. If it is not. Leave the area immediately!
Service this weapon every few months. If your environment is good, you don’t need to. But you should. Once a year. I will set everything out on the table and work on all of it. Sharpen all of my fine blades and make sure they’re oiled, so no rust can touch them. Then you take apart your gun and gently oil and treat it.
No gun has ever killed anyone.
Only people have killed other people. This is a tool they use to further that goal. You should not be able to sue a gun manufacturer for the activities of someone using it.
It is that person‘s fault. Not the gun’s…

It’s my philosophy on weapons entirely. What else would it be under? If you have a better suggestion, I would hear it.

It’s a philosophy on weapons. This is the philosophy thread. The pub is hardly a place to discuss philosophy. They’d rather talk about Velcro or Prigozhin’s fake death.

It is a dangerous tool. That needs to be treated with respect.
That is it. Everything else is what people put on it.

I always really liked the revolver. The design hasn’t changed since the 1800s because it hasn’t had to. It’s essentially impossible to jam. But I wouldn’t say I love any of my weapons. I respect them. I treat them well. That can be said for all of my possessions though. I’m a real stickler about when people borrow my things. They need to be treated well. I loaned a book to someone once. When it came back with fanned out corners. They never got to borrow a book for me again…

Did you just put something on it ?

In many cases, the psychological motivation for owning a gun is similar to the decision to purchase a home security alarm system. You may never need it. But if you do, it might be very helpful.

what if you have been told that you are too fat, and have to buy ozempic?
I see it as a marketing phenomenon - the bonanza of lies pushing products on us that are not needed, we cave, and swallow the pitch, and buy the security system, and buy the gun, and pay and pay and pay.
Then we try to make sure we are surrounded by people who believe the same lies, and we start selling the extra stuff to others, making them feel inadequate because they are too fat or going to get attacked or robbed....
I haven't turned on a security system since I closed my store, where insurance required it. 10 years ago, and I recognize the panel in the apartment I am moving into, and just shake my head.
the only time the security system ever went off was due to a mouse or something. The police came, the noise was terrible, I had to phone the service to run their checks and all a waste of everyone's time. Multiply that by millions.
expensive nuisance. far more trouble than it is worth.
It's like they say, "people who live in glass houses shouldn't stow thrones".

“It’s better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it.”
You have never been robbed. Thus you don’t feel like you need it. My father was almost executed by a pair robbers on Halloween. I feel I need it…
You don’t need to buy a security system either red. I cut boards with a saw and fit them on all my windows. That way no one can open them from the outside and get in here. I can have my windows open! It’s just planning for the worst.
So that if it ever happens, you will be the best off you can be.

Magical thinking puts everything down to karma where actually existing where barred windows are neaded is evidence of state of mind.

I sleep like a baby. I decided to feel like there was nothing kind of crawling around at the back of my mind. “was that a person outside?” I couldn’t care less if there was a person outside right now. I would call the police. That’s saying a lot because y’all know how I feel about them. All of those thoughts are completely gone now. My house is safe. It’s just a comfort. My roommates are women. It makes them feel more safe too.
