To change a mind in a Call of Duty chat room. Define what we are doing for them. Because they forgot.

Imagine this. I was playing call of duty. One time there was this kid who came into this room after getting stomped. I had my methods. Of course you die when you’re using these methods. Everyone dies in war. But I always had fun when I play call of duty. The point of the game is to have fun. If you’re not having fun. You’re doing it wrong. Try leaving going and getting a snack. Coming back later with fresh eyes and you’ll have fun again.
So this poor kid comes into the room, talks about this camper. This guy stayed in this place the entire time “I’m gonna do that next round!”
As if he had just come up with the idea for the first time. The kid thinks he’s Arnold Palmer.(supposed inventor of tea, mixed with lemonade….)
I just kind of scoffed, shook my head slowly. Then quietly chuckled. He heard me though. “What!?)” I stopped, chuckling for a second. “ so you’re gonna let him lower you to his level? That’s really disappointing. You shouldn’t let anyone lower you to their level. You should be better than that.”
This, of course, made him really offended. He tried to defend his decision as hard as he could.
But to use my favorite quote from Fitzcarraldo to describe an impassible river.
“There is no hair to grab onto.”
So he fumbles with his words for a bit. I tell him that I’m not judging him. I tell him my Mantra with video games. That I just described up above. I tell him to not let somebody take away the happiness that he is supposed to be feeling when he’s playing a game he likes. To change his outlook and to experience it more fully.
It didn’t happen very often. Only two times. I tried maybe 10. But those two kids did thank me. Their outlook changed. They had so much more fun in the next round because of it that they felt they needed to say something to me. Meaning that even in a call of duty chat room I am trying to help people.
Much like you. Thank you.

That is very interesting Buster. I legitimately had never heard of that before. I did love taking psychology in college though. Maybe I picked it up and didn’t remember. But it’s definitely something I always use when I’m playing a video game. It should always be fun. Maybe when your Hangry you cant have fun while playing a challenging game? People forget that’s possible. They’ll just punish themselves saying they “need to get better.”

That brings back "I hope you're having fun" from Mcartney's Band On The Run
