I have only gotten the opportunity to do this twice. I will now detail the first time that I’ve ever done this.
I had actually fallen victim to the Marriott cruise scam.
For anyone not familiar. It starts off just the first second a foghorn. From a giant cruise ship out on the ocean. And then it tells you how you’re a winner and you’re so lucky. Even though you don’t remember ever entering that contest, do you?
So after I had actually “won”. They told me how the only thing you got, were the tickets. You’d have to spend your money to get there and then you have to spend your money to buy any food. The room you get rid would be terrible. We decided not to go. It’s actually sounded terrible in.
They called me again about five years later same foghorn. I hung up on it. I, then at that moment, decided to put myself on the do not call list. Some thing that everyone should do if they haven’t already.
I also decided to look up the Better Business Bureau. It’s a place to report scams phone calls, or any operated by robots. Those are actually illegal where I live. So anytime the first thing you get hit with is a robot or an AI generated text to voice, not human. you can just report them to this.
But when I got called the third time. When the fog horn went off again.
I waited. This time I was going to talk to him.
Probably took a couple minutes, but it was worth it. I got to talk to him. Then I told him exactly what I thought of what he was doing to people… Told him how I was not a fool. How I would not fooled the second time. Then he insulted me. He got really hostile actually. Told me I was fucking stupid. So then I met his aggression with mine. This was before I started really working on my anger. So this was incredibly therapeutic for me. It was a great outlet.
That feeling of just getting to yell at somebody without feeling bad at all about all the things you’re saying. Because they are truly just the worst people on earth.
It reminded me of a quote from Sin City. “I love bountyhunters, you never have to feel bad.”
This quote for is from Marv of old town. As he dragged a bounty hunters face down the street at about 60Mph in a convertible.
Afterward I felt lighter.
Better than I had in a while. Because just getting to get that off my chest. Tell him exactly what I thought of his dirty little scam and what he was doing. Made me just feel like I had gotten to make the world just a little bit better. I know I hadn’t. I just yelled at an asshole. It was still very therapeutic.
