"Never stay up on the barren heights of cleverness, but come down into the green valleys of silliness."
“If people did not sometimes do silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done.”

Balancing the brilliance of intelligence with the charm of silliness is the art of a well rounded mind. After all, even geniuses need a splash of whimsy to keep life colorful.
Laughing at yourself adds the final brushstroke to this masterpiece.

How green those valleys are. Nice thread idea and good quotes! It's a lifeline when we bog ourselves down with the seriousness many insist on in this world.
I owe much of my love of whacky shit and weird humour to a childhood fascination with- and immersion IN- the works of Spike Milligan, Bill Waterson, Dr. Suess, Roald Dahl, Lewis Carroll and Gary Larson- among many other whimsical characters, poets and cartoonists who really knew how to captivate the young mind with well made nonsense.
"I eat my peas with honey- I've done it all my life. It makes them taste quite funny, but keeps them on my knife!"
Then it was the off the wall craziness of "The Mighty Boosh" as a preteen on to finding out about weed and as then, a stoner teen- discovering the work of Chris Morris and Armando Lannucci in the likes of "Brasseye", "Time Trumpet" and "The Day Today". Fucking amazing.

In general, wrt being human, the silliness factor seems completely off the scales.

Unfortunately, many adults have lost their willingness and/or ability to be silly, as they've concluded being silly is immature and a sign of childishness. Engaging in silliness is a fun playful activity that cognitively engages creativity and illogical thinking. It's a powerful antidote to dull depressing seriousness and contributes to strong mental health.

The valley of silliness is the refuge of cowards and failures. That said, a touch of silliness may be useful in gaining the confidence of others.
