I miss Icelander. I miss the past, and I'm scared of the future. * 2
    #28436641 - 08/17/23 12:02 AM (5 months, 9 days ago)

My train is truggin' alone the track. It's fine. But I miss the past.

I never knew what an anchor was until I lost it.

The future could be great, but I'm scared, cause I only know the past. and i miss it.

How do you miss someone you never really knew?  Whatever the answer, it doesn't stop the hurt.

mind's journey expands what is familiar, incorporating the strange: new spaces, new faces, new styles, new music, new problems, new solutions - amazingly we can deal with the unfamiliar using what we have become familiar with, beginning with our bodies, and just being present.

Initially we come here because we are interested in strange things, strange dreams, drugs that make us strange, and strange stories and ideas.

The same old same old may be boring, but it is also a treasure, and the mesh of memory into which we add what we are living through.

Icelander is now that type of treasure.

I miss him too. There are more than a few missing, either moved on or passed away. Ice had a big personality but minus a hand full of people the board is all together different due to the turnover of others besides him and a few have passed away only recently.

But it's still an interesting place. No telling who else will show up. That's how it all started anyway.

I never got to interact with him but I've only heard good stuff. What was he really like on here?

He was open about a lot of his history and personal life. Was a supplement salesman when young, ended up quitting because he thought it was a grift. Was a martial artist and teacher. Bought a house in the Pacific NW. Owned lots of dogs. Enjoyed wilderness survival.

He was responsible for a lot of arguments getting heated, avoided personalisms while still making the viewpoints he disagreed with seem stupid.

Ya, he was not always nice and often a pot stirrer. But he is one of us and will always be. I too miss Ice.

Hey, its been a rough week and I was pretty in the bag with this OP but it's not wrong. Thanks for the kind words.

Thanks rgv, thanks. You always are so poetic and I love it, and like a shadow to the flame I always hear my mind trying to imagine what Icelander would say in response. Short and witty, self depricating but astute, and punctuated with a snark that felt like a kiss on the forehead. Marked with the classic smoking devil, always his advocate.

Yeah, Diploid. OC as far as I can tell, always the sneaky bugger that one. MT and FWG? I bet you guys could remind me of others that are going to hurt cause I wasn't present. The new members seem rad, and I hope no one new is feeling disrespected by my attachment to the past. There have been some really amazing conversations in this place, there used to be stricter moderation and a constant goading to really sharpen the blade so-to-speak, which isnt a criticism of its growth but an admiration of a moment. I came late to that party, but damn did some of those party goers go out with a bang.

Here's to the new ones! :satansmoking:

Yeah what happened to him? There's several others, and I don't lay judgement as life swept me away. Capitalism needed me to fight harder for my standard of living cause I was young, people gonna do what they gotta do.
