Initiate pinning?
    #2844272 - 06/30/04 06:32 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I recently started my first casing, with coir/verm, and I'm starting to see little 'spots' of mycelium pop up.  They seem to be coming up pretty evenly across the whole surface, but they're small.. maybe between 1/4 and 1/2 of an inch.  Is this too early to cold shock and birth?  It's been 4 days since I cased.  Should I wait a couple more days?  Please help me to not fuck up.  :crazy2:

If you have mycelium popping up four days after casing, the question must be asked "How thick (or thin, rather) is your casing layer? Too thin me thinks. The only reason to put anythign less than an inch on a tray is haste, which makes waste. If you already have primordia forming just get it out of the incubator and fruit.

No primordia, yet. I thought I read somewhere that 1/4- 1/2 of an inch was sufficient. :o Substrate is about 2-3 inches. Guess I'll toss on a bit more casing?

Oh, yeah. For say an inch of casing, how long should I expect to be incubating?

Thoguht you were describing primordia. If there is not visible knotting of the mycelium then it's okay to toss on additional casing. Scratch afterwards. Rate of colonization varies with strain, health of mycelial colony, moisture content of casing mixture, and incubation temp. As a general rule, more than 4 days.
