Getting started

Hey guys! Been a cube grower off and on for years, but lately I've been thinking more about going legit and getting growing stuff I can tell uncle Sam about.
Few issues being cubes seem much more home grow friendly as far as space constraints, don't need a greenhouse etc.
Do you need a working practice of lc to produce consistent results?
Any tips on finding a good space?

You Can use ez dial mono for Reishi or cordyceps, they don't need many fae. I use LC for all my edible growth's without issues. Here some Reishi in mono and mini mono:

I was more wondering if i could get away with solid innoculants like we have noobs start with for cubes.
I don't know many grocers or restraunts that want cordyceps or rieshi.
I appreciate the reply.

LC definitely makes things easier but you can inoculate grain with agar as well. Only big difference is Gourmet/Medicinal need HWFP instead of Coco
As long as you are using un-supplemented HWFP you can S2B in open air same as cubes also.
Will definitely need a tent for most edibles though. Reishi do fine in tubs or in a bag. No need for a tent if you want only antlers.
Nice thing about Gourmets is they just sit on a shelf in a bag until ready to fruit so only need the tent for fruiting. I grow Shiitake and Maitake mostly for edibles. Both spend 2 months on a shelf in a sealed bag and only 1-2weeks in the tent for fruiting. Lion's Mane is a bit faster but same deal. Only in tent to Fruit.
Also LC is not all that difficult. Check out this thread. Worked for me. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24740168/vc/1

Lc is not a necessity. For me it is not preferable. I do agar to grains and never touch lc.
Rockin robot is correct that a fruiting cage is necessary but it doesn't have to be complex or expensive. A fan to pull air outside, a disc ultrasonic humidifier, lights and timers, 4 walls, shelf, that's about it.
Do you have goals set for amount of mushrooms you want to grow?

There's steps.
First learn agar work and get good with getting consistent grows with that.
Then go with LC.

Lol, I know. I've worked with agar for years.

Right now, not really. My ultimate goal is to work for myself dog training and doing fruit tree care, while spending time cultivating while waiting for calls.
My main goal is to stop working for other people and to strive for more from life.
I'd love somewhere with plenty of fruiting space and tiled walls with running water and a floor drain. Don't know how I'd go about finding a building like that to rent

I would get some home grows under your belt before you worry about renting a space for commercial cultivation.

I get that, I'm thinking longer term. I've grown some lions mane a couple times.
I'm confident in my aseptic technique, but I've been needing more space for a long time now, and been wanting a flow hood for even longer, but have nowhere to put it at home, and I'd rather not try to fiddle with bags in my cramped closet sab.
More space would help me be less overwhelmed.
Also, having my home be my workspace is terrible for productivity

I currently have blue oysters growing in 3' long logs outdoors.
I used hardwood plug spawn inoculated into 3/8 holes then sealed with wax
Not sure if this is something u might be interested in trying out.

Also making these logs u could make smaller ones and sell them at local farmers markets.
Good luck on your endeavor. I think it will be a fun one.
Please make a grow log so I can follow along 😁

Why is that? I feel like having the grow op at home is more efficient and less annoying. I.e. no travel time, less work hour constraints, can take care of the family at the same time.
As far as rooms for fruiting, you don't need anything fancy like tiles or even a floor drain. My grow space is a tiny area in my garage. It's 2' wide and 10' long. Five rows of shelving can accommodate enough blocks to turn out 100lbs a week. The walls are made of plastic sheeting and foam board. There is no drain or tiles but concrete floor.
