How many 1/2 pint jars do you think 1 quart of verm. will be good for?

This is a good place to get vermiculite and perlite. You are going to want more than a quart!

But the vermiculite section on HomeHarvest only has coarse. Is this ok too?

Badtown: HQ put some coarse vermiculite in her coffee grinder before; easier than brf but she just can't bear to use it for grinding beans anymore...

If your doing the newbie or pftek, then you want to put some verm aside for casing and the verm. seal so 1 quart would probably do about 12 jars.

Ok, just ordered 4 qt. verm and perlite from HomeHarvest. I'm planning on just putting it through the grinder. Thanks.

Badtown, don't bother with grinding course vermiculite. Home Harvest has fine vermiculite here.

I've always preferred the course verm because it allows more aeration within the substrate. The mycelium network can move around more freely helping speed up growth. And as for the casing soil, it gives it more texture as well.
