sporeless cubensis and 1000 other mushrooms (pics)
    #2842801 - 06/30/04 08:39 AM (12 years, 5 months ago)

i found several sporeless cubes on my last hunt. the gills are a very bright orange color. i found several of them but none were the size of the one pictured. anyone know why they might be sporeless? just genetics? next time i hunt, if i find another one i might attempt to clone it just for fun( that one is way to dry now hehe)

as for the other mushrooms i have no idea what they are just wanted to share the pics. hope you enjoy.
good luck hunting to every one.

how sure are you they are sporeless? maybe its just a mutation and the spores are of a differnt color?

ITs a different species dude, not a cubensis for sure. Be careful what you ingest!

I've seen look-a-like cubies many times, they look almost identical on top, almost a more tan color. And they have white where the spores should be, check for blue bruising.

Check for smell too, you can recognize the smell upon close inspection.

I think you should wait for one of the more experienced shroomerites to take a look at your "sporeless cubensis" before you make any possible death attempts.

The other pic looks like a bunch of Coprinus(inky caps) of some kind.

if you would click the thubnail of the pic you can see VERY OBVIOUS BLUE bruising where the veil is.

it is a psilocybe cubensis.

yeah i have had indoor cultivated cubes be spore less, it's just that in my 4 years of hunting i have never seen one in the wild. i thought it was pretty cool.

here is another pic of the same sporeless cube. it is quite obvious that the mushroom pictured is in fact Ps. Cubensis.

Beautiful specimen! Its obviously sterile, the white colored gills give it away. I love sporeless mushrooms, its very cool you found one in the wild.

Because some people do not like the spore load created by mushroom cultivation (its messy and some people build an allergy over time). That is a great specimen for cloning anyway, not to mention it has an extra bonus of being sterile. I for one am allergic to the spores of mushroom when in high airborne concentrations. I end up with trouble breathing when exposed for extended periods of time. In cases similar to mine one would prefer to grow sterile mushrooms as the problem gets worse over time...

I found my first wild, sporeless the other day. It was weird finding it, and just seeing whitish tanish gills. Bruised and looked just like any other cube, found in same area, just sterile. Is it common to find them in pairs?

Now, I do not hunt wild cubies, nor do I have any experience with the look-alikes. I don't know how common it is in nature to find them. I once grew a EQ casing out long time ago just for prints. The entire casing on every flush (4) produced nothing but sterile mushrooms. The thing that gets me is it was from a mult-spore inoculation, so I figure at least one mating would have resulted in a spore producing substrain...  :mad2:

Now, given the frequency cultivators encounter them I would think that it would also be fairly common for this to happen in nature. When the typical grower fruits from multi-spore, many matings can result in fruits. In nature, there are probably less matings in an entire field as in some of the jars people make (extremely dark syringe users especially). Therefor I think it would be a fairly uncommon thing to stumble upon in the wild in comparison...

Just my thoughts...

Haha, cool score Mescalato, good picture comparison.

Albino "sporeless" Cubensis are not too common.

Ive only found them a few times.

Again, that is a great photo.

>Albino "sporeless" Cubensis are not too common.

would this be considered an albino? or is it just sterile?

 That's a good question. I'm not sure. I usually just call them albinos. Maybe that's the wrong term.

Mjshroomer posted some pictures a few days ago with some that he found in a Asia field. I'll check to see what he called them..
