Question about Cubensis
    #2842718 - 06/30/04 07:51 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I found quite a few mushrooms that looked identical from the top to psilocybe cubensis. they had a golden top with a nipple and a ring around the stem...however the ring was white (meaning no spores dropped on it)? i think .. and the under side was not bluing - i did not pick any of these although i felt like i was leaving something behind that i should have been snatching .. any opinions?

Unless you're 100% sure I wouldn't take a chance.

Better safe than sorry.

Where were they growing and what color were the gills? Only thing I can think of would be Chlorophyllum molybdites, which look somewhat similar to cubes, but very easy to distinguish upon closer inspection. Gumby just posted some nice pics of them a few posts down.

One of the problems is they look like cubensis from the road...I saw a bunch about 3 yrs back one morning going to work...I stopped and went thru a wide easy access cattle gate to ck them out...
Usually they arent around till August-October but we have had almost 18 inches of rain in june alone so they are just about everywhere....
I havent ever heard of anyone stupid enough to eat them...they are huge shrooms and dont look like a cubbie at all when you are cking them out...

Check for smell too, you can recognize the smell upon close inspection.
