I too am interested in this.... saw it for sale at fungi perfecti I think.... you put it in your chainsaw and innoc. logs with your chain saw..... sounds better than drilling and plugging for edibles..... but would it work with psilocybe and innoc. jars and such? is it even worth doing, or is it better than a normal spore syringe?

peace

DO NOT BUY IT from FP
It does not work for fruit body production, but only to help rot away stumps that help keep your property from washing away. But don't take my word for it, I know for a fact that others higher up , particularly spore vendors, have experimented with it for use in home culivation with poor results. Otherwise, they would probaly be selling it in syringe form.

The problem with people that "know for a fact" is they usually don't know shit. The spored oils fruit. I did a cut that involved about 200 hardwoods, mixed species. The majority of the stumps fruited as did the wood that was left to lay. So as mah2b1 stated, don't take his word for it. Spored oils are designed for clearing land in a manner that includes good land stewardship, not innoculating your logs per se. I have never had a bad experience with FP. All this trash talk makes me think there are some growers out there that need to focus more time on their technique and less time blaming FP for their failures.

Yeah, the spore oil from FP isn't for fruitbody production. It's not intended or really designed to spawn stumps or logs so that mushrooms will form. It's one of Paul's great ideas to introduce more mycelium into the forest floor and thereby help the bio-remediation of the forests. It's a product really designed for loggers to use when they are harvesting lumber. Introducing mycelium to the stumps and cut wood helps keep soil erosion low and promotes the redevelopment of the shrubs, bush, and eventually trees that will regrow the forests.

It's not bunk or lame or anything like that, it's just designed for a specific purpose and not for the spread of fruiting mycelium into logs you are trying to treat as if they have been inoculated with plug spawn.

It will fruit if the conditions are right. This can be done at home.
2. parts vegi. oil.
1. part corn syrup
Wood loving spores of your choice.
I thought this was a great idea when I first saw it. I had to try to make my own. I have oysters on elm logs fruiting right now.

Not all mycelium produces fruitbodies. Some isolations, or naturally occuring substrains of a particular species are better at it than others.

If you've ever tried to collect and then cultivate any number of rare edidlbe mushroom species, you'll know what I'm talking about. Many culture banks around the world propogate their mycelium without ever testing it for fruitability, so when the culture is then sold to a buyer, who tries to fruit it, you can find that the strain has usually degenerated or isolated to a point where it no longer produces fruits (or very poor fruits).

For example, remember Psilocybe mexicana? For YEARS there was not a fruitable strain circulating in the worldwide community because people, even commercial growers, usually propogated this solely for it's sclerotia. As a result it was incresaingly more difficult to get fruits to form from the mycelium that was constantly propogated and spread. Only when fresh spore material was obtained from the wild, and laboratory isolations ensued did we once again have a fruitable strain of Ps. mexicana.

Same holds true for many edibles, like the Paddy Straw mushroom, most cultures cirulate by banks are unstable and non-fruiting.
