Stamets suggests using a treated pine or other soft wood for a high humidity environment. A slatted base with a plastic exterior will hold in the humidity fine. If you run into molds with wood, a simple perlite humidified rubbermaid container with a window cutout will work perfect.

Get a can of the cheapest possible gloss white exterior latex paint, to that add one package of mildew-retardant powder to the package directions. Get it where you get the paint, works wonders at keeping anything from growing on the paint.

Paint the inside AND outside [all surfaces] with at least 2-3 coats, drying well between coats. Take an extra day or two to do this and it will last quite a while and stay relatively contam-free. Don't had it will buckle/warp/rot, and shit will be growing everywhere.

You can also line the inside with plastic. They sell large sheets of plasic drop clothes when people paint they use them to cover their floors. Or you can cut up some garbage bags. It won't look as nice as the paint, but it might be better in the long run in preventing rot and other nasties.
