Michigan finds - Chantrelles maybe? and some Coprinus

Went out for a hike today, found some chantrelles maybe? not quite sure, and a HUGE and I mean HUGE patch of Coprinus. Also some very very very tiny mushrooms.


a. Habitat (Michigan, USA, growing from dirt and mulch)
b. Characteristics of the gills (veiny sp? )
c. Measurements of cap (1-3 in)
d. Characteristics of the stem (thick, light orange )
e. Characteristics of the cap (bright orange, smooth)
f. Spore print color (none visible)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises (none visible)
h. Smells mushroomy =)





a. Habitat (Michigan, USA, growing from base of rotting tree )
b. Characteristics of the gills (light grey )
c. Measurements of cap (.5 in)
d. Characteristics of the stem (.5-1 inches tall, white, hollow )
e. Characteristics of the cap (white(young) grey(matured) )
f. Spore print color (black)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises (light brown)






a. Habitat (Michigan, USA, growing from grass and dirt)
b. Characteristics of the gills (white )
c. Measurements of cap (1.5 in)
d. Characteristics of the stem (white, hollow, and 4 inches tall )
e. Characteristics of the cap (brown, kinda slimy )
f. Spore print color (white)
g. Color that the mushroom bruises (n/a)

c. Measurements of cap (2mm)
d. Characteristics of the stem (.5 inches tall )

First ones are definately Chante relles. Where are you in Michigan? I'm across the lake from you, I should probably get out and look for those prizes.

the chanterelles are out around here as well, they will be full force in a couple weeks I think

I'm about 30 minutes from the lake in western Mi. Glad I finally found some :laugh: does anyone know how long the  season lasts here in Mich. ?

Yep, you're correct about your first two IDs. Eat those chanterelles(cook well first)... they're yummy :smile:

I'm using a NIkon 5700, I wish I could post some higher res pictures but I guess it doesn't really matter huh :smirk:  Thanks for looking, hopefully I will find some more Chanterelles soon, pretty excited I actually found some.
