Treatment for Cluster Headaches * 1
    #28395541 - 07/14/23 03:45 PM (6 months, 12 days ago)

Hello,

I am new here and am still finding my way around - so please forgive me if I’m not in the correct place for posting this.

I’ve lived with Cluster Headaches for 20+ years and as time has gone on, they got worse. I was finally diagnosed around 2015/16 but the medications I tried made things much worse. I can’t get oxygen either.

Thankfully, in my darkest times, I learned of Psilocybin as a possible treatment. Before that I wouldn’t have entertained Psychedelics. I was always worried about things going wrong. But when you are desperate and in excruciating pain, with no end in sight, you’ll give anything a try.

Long story short - I gave Magic Truffles a try and low and behold, they worked. The headaches went away. And nothing bad happened. I didn’t lose my mind. In fact, quite the opposite. I had an amazing time. Never any visuals to speak of but I felt so content, unburdened and elevated.

So for a couple of years, I’d use Truffles maybe twice a year and I wouldn’t see an attack again. That was until Brexit which cut off my supply.

That year I suffered bad with attacks and I once again found myself in desperation. Fortunately, my cycles usually start around Autumn - Mushroom Season! So out I went, in all weathers, walking fields for several hours a day, sometimes stopping only while I had an attack, hunting for Liberty Caps.

Having taught myself to correctly identify them and where they might grow, after two weeks of relentless hunting, I managed to rustle up about 3 or 4 grams. Pitiful I know lol

So having dried them out I decided to try a conservative 1.5g and all that did was give me a slight buzz which wore off after about an hour. Gave it two weeks and tried the rest of the batch. Same thing. No real trip but the headaches did stop.

Since then, I have been cultivating my own shrooms and I am finding the same with them too. I started growing last year with PE6 and GT and I worked my way through my entire harvests trying to get something to happen.

Over the course of last year and this, I’ve trialed 4 different varieties of Cubensis, different sensible doses increading over time, allowing breaks between attempts and in different settings etc. Nope. Nothing.

I had worked my way up to about 5g trying everything.
I even ate 32g of wet JMF about a month ago and absolutely nothing happened.

Last weekend, I said sod it and took 8g dry of Golden Mammoths and that finally did something. A mild, pleasant trip for about 3 hours but nothing like I had in the past from 20g of wet truffles.

It’s not actually the trip experience I am chasing, although it’s nice but over the few years that I’ve been using Psilocybin to treat these headaches I have noted that if I don’t trip or trip enough then the headaches don’t stop.

Earlier this year for example. I had a cluster cycle unusually start up in late spring. My shrooms did nothing. During one particular attack, out of desperation, I chewed down 4g of PE6 hoping it would abort the attack. Nahh. I just felt a tiny bit happier when the attack finally did stop, 2 hours later.

I wont know until Autumn when the attacks normally start, whether my recent 8g dose has done anything.

So now, I am a man on a mission. I have questions.

The main one being, why truffles worked better than higher than normal doses of shrooms.

I mean, if I’m tolerant or something then truffles shouldn’t have worked either. 20g wet truffles is about 2g dry and truffles are meant to contain less psilocybin than shrooms, so I don’t get it.

It makes no sense. I am not on any new medications. No SSRIs etc.

I want to run some self-experiments and see if I can try and understand what’s going on here. And this has lead me to starting my own little home myco “breeding” program.

I have some theories I’d like to look into and hopefully find something that works for me, consistently.

At the moment I’m looking to gather truffle producing samples as well as other potent Psilocybe strains as a starting point. Then it’s a lot of growing and testing.

And that’s where I’m at now. Strain hunting and gathering samples for my library.  And I have to say, tracking down Truffle samples is proving tricky. I am guessing that’s because of the time it takes for them to produce that they are not as popular or as sought after as Cubensis?

Wow, that went on longer than planned, ha ha.

Thank you for reading, if you made it this far lol

That's great that psilocybin has helped so much with your cluster headaches! You may want to check out the website ClusterBusters. They have been around some 20 years helping cluster headache sufferers. You may find very good advice there as far as best dosage and frequency for magic mushrooms.

You don't have to trip to cure your cluster headaches, but I certainly understand why you would want to. I don't know why you are not tripping, but you may find the post, A beginner's guide to understanding why mushrooms didn't have the desired effects. by Northerner helpful.

The dosages you say you are doing with your home-grown mushrooms should have you tripping, but they don't. If you have much better results from truffles, I would suggest you grow those instead. They are actually much easier to grow than cubes.

I hope you have continued success with psilocybin for your headaches and good luck on your truffle grows!

:whathesaid:

It is great that you have found some relief. I agree that you should try to grow some stone producers. Tampanensis have been a pretty easy transition after cubes and for stones, they can be easier in many ways.

Check out this Stone thread if you haven't already.

I would like to add a possible correction to your numbers, though. Because sclerotia are 70% water versus 90% for mushrooms, the 20g wet stones is more like 6 grams dried sclerotia and 4 grams dried mushrooms. Just tossing that out there because it may help get a more accurate estimation of your comparable doses.
