First "Wave" :) - Seeking Advice based on visuals
    #28395363 - 07/14/23 12:28 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

To preface, I've been building and engineering air quality containments, worked in Laboratories for a few years. I've always admired the mycological universe but wasn't lucky enough to be exposed, nor did the Ring Of Fire allow me to focus on this until this point in my life.

This is my first cultivation and I am seeking advice. I intend to research my Tidal Wave species and clone my optimal fruits after the first flush of 4 unique applications of grain.

Firstly, the NS Grain inoculation went great. Placed against JMF, TW is mutant fast, healthy, and resilient. 16 days to fully grip its claws into the 3lb grain bag. JMF has about 2 square inches of grain at 30 days.

After colonization, CVG was pasteurized and prepared for 4 unique variations of 19qt Mono-Tubs. After 7 days, about 90% colonization, I took my most resilient looking tub and prepared a true casing, and left in fruiting conditions under a Martha Tent containment.

I am working to optimize humidity, evaporation, temperature, gas, airflow, and a few other minor factors.

This is the result of a shot in the dark parameters after 4 days. The casing is being penetrated by what I can only assume is hyphal strands balling into spires, or primordia, as they peak through the casing to find the fresh air.

Honest question for the viewership, are these fruiting bodies forming all over?

Any opinions on signs of excess humidity or FAE?

I'm not a pro, but I would venture to say that FAE was slightly too high, as well as humidity.

I intend to update this thread weekly or semi-weekly until all 4 variations are 1st flushed and cloned. I want to build the ultimate set-and-forget for monster fruit.

Blessed evening

Here are the other 3 variations, without casing.

Not even a single "on a scale of 1-10, how does this look?" type response? :mad2:

The ultimate set and forgot for monster fruit is a modded/unmodded tub and not a Martha 🤷♂️

Screenshotted for posterity. It's in a custom system, which won't be changing no matter how hard any hater, hates.

Just curious how the initial growth looks to experienced mycologists.

Setting a reminder to upload a picture of a fatty when its ready to be harvested out of my mechanized beauty. I've seen all the "grown in the grain bag" "neglek tek" videos. They produce junk.

Right but like…you ever looked at photos here of a 15$ plastic tote grow? I’ve grown a 210+G from a shoebox lol.

Those reachers are just mycelium. Nothing knotting up yet. Keeping in the dark is silly and old info. Light at all stages.

If FAE was too high why would they be reaching for air?

Are you using AGAR or what I think I read as MSS-to grains?

I'm not converting, shill! Science beats lazy.
I attach my system, get data, and be care free for up to two weeks. I'm not here to downgrade, convert, or be expected to be the "cheapest possible method". This is just what works for me. I don't care about yield. I care about screwing around until I find out.

I figure you didn't read the same research as I did, I'm just trying to prove you can force fruiting body structure similar to designer plants. My "automatic system" parameters were the shot in the dark. Nothing was actually in the dark, I've looked for specific environmental parameters for so long its not even a joke anymore.

Mycelium under negative pressure reaching up through the coir in spires tends to produce two or three responses that dictate the environmental conditions. Too much moisture and they sag at the base of the coir where the physical support is, like melting glass. They also have a length to width profile that can be watched to adjust FAE. Concave ends = TOO MUCH FAE, its better to begin with a directly vertical, and even profile of hyphal reaching (I bet they all become pins). You can see in one tub that the spires around the turbulent corners have flattened in the direction of average flow, its kinda cool. BUT AGAIN, heck if I know why this tub looks so different in my thousands of photos seen. I was just seeking to find someone who actually understood, and could speak on my growth based on the information provided.

Reluctantly thanking you for confirming that my hyphal formations are of a hyphal nature.

Why are you asking people to rate your tub and all this if you’re already absolutely positive your tub has the best growth ever seen?

Also curious where you obtained this information about mycelium sagging at the base like molten glass or having concave ends in response to air levels.

I think its good, what's wrong with asking others if they think the same? Why not seek all of the combined experience of a community to help me see why it produced these growth patterns? Why not see if anyone has an opinion on how to adjust my FAE or humidity based on visuals.

There was some older scanned research from Paul and Terrence. They spoke about inducing evaporation and went into detail on the micro climate theories. Another few books and what-not spoke on the mechanisms that drive the accumulation of the mushroom body structure. Hyphal formations are very peculiar, think of why the cordyceps forces its prey to go to a specific height over ground. Similar to how fog moves across thermal gradients in the real world. If you induce the most optimal conditions of gases, humidity, nutrient, spectral triggering, and substrate structuring you can force the mycelium into gluttony. I'm not OCD and not going to stand there pumping gaseous mixtures in and out of the tubs, nor am I going to physically induce evaporation for transpirative stress growth. I think an even canopy can be achieved aside from genetics, and the visual aesthetic of that will make me happy. I didn't come here to adjust my method. It's an abomination, and it's mine.

This thread has been a real eye-opener. Thank you, OP.
Why have I been wasting my time here, coming through posts from growers with decades of experience that grow full, even flushes constantly, to the point where they are so bored they have to fuck around with unothodox stuff just to stay hyped, when I have you, the guy that read some articles and books and has grown zero mushrooms, to tell me how to do it, while at the same time being able to read your self-important prose that's written in such a style so as to convey the idea that everyone is dumber than you, and could not possibly understand the things that you do?
I'm sure I missed some punctuation above. Hope it gives you fits.

All your tubs are bacterial which is causing the growth you’re seeing.  Cordyceps force their hosts to elevated positions for better spore dispersal.
