slow(er) colonization and heat
    #28395148 - 07/14/23 08:35 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

First time grower. Got some ecuadorian psilocybe cubensis. Made syringes from the spore print then continued by making BRF cakes in 2 x 240ml jars.

The spore was injected exactly 1 month ago and it started spreading very aggressively. Last 10-15 days though are really hot around here, hitting constantly 30+ celsius, sometimes even as much as 38-41c. I feel like the overall heat has slowed down the colonization.

There's still gaps around the jars even though they are pretty whiteish. They been sitting for a full month after all. I am not sure on how to proceed, should I wait more (if so, how long?) or just spawn them?

I'm going for bulk btw

here's a picture of the current state of the jars

I…I’m pretty sure these are fucked?

I’d just fruit them as cakes and wait for someone else’s thoughts.

why would you say they are fucked? Those things on the glass is vermiculite btw and there's no sign of contamination at all

no no, that's verm that got stuck on the glass as the mycelium expanded

I am pretty confident the jars are not contaminated at all.

I took a lot of precautions to avoid contamination (SAB, jar steam sterilization etc)

Same experience here too.  I blame the heat and am just waiting for cooler weather to see what happens.

I do see rhizomorphs in one of the photos near the top. It might be fine, true.
Just remember if it smells like mushroom-soup then it should be good.
Yes sometimes vermiculite does get stuck on the side of the glass. Goodluck!

Also if the temps are a bit high, remember mycelium already makes heat just by colonizing.

If you had to pick one of your jars as being contaminated, which would you pick?
Have a look at this thread.

eh, there could be a bacterial contamination actually?

the bottom of the jars don't have any mycelium at all

I guess I will just spawn them and see how it goes..

I’d wait a while then top fruit the jars if you want to see what happens. If you chop those cakes up whatever else is in there will spread through the substrate. Your opening post said the growth was very aggressive. Clean mycelial growth isn’t very aggressive.
Start another grow.
