Hey guys,
I started this Nicotiana rustica from a tiny seedling gifted from a friend (I apologize for the horrible photos):

The last pic is what it looked like until I brought it home. It grew in a greenhouse (which is my place of work, so I had easy access) for a couple of weeks, maybe 2 months, and then I took it home after the frosts were long-over to grow it outside for the summer. But now it looks like this, after a slow decline ever since taking it from the greenhouse:

The yellow is mostly just the sun angle, there's only a few yellow leaves at the botton. But the whole plant is wilting despite what I thought was adequate water. I work with plants every day, so I know how to take care of them generally. Is there something I'm missing? Could it have to be transplanted again? It's already in about a 10" wide by 12" deep pot. Has anyone had similar issue with tobacco? Thanks!

Looks like it dryed out to much. Was there a point when it seamed to dry prior to the wilt? If not the other possibility is too much water that has rotted the roots and resulted in the wilt. I have grown this plant for many years and not had this problem. Also they are not very long lived and usually do not get much bigger then that but they should develop seeds before dying. With mine I do not even plant them in their own pot any more I just through seeds into my cacti and tropical pots.

They did develop a good amount of seed pods, so would it be time to harvest the seeds and leaves and let the plant die off?

If they do not perk back up I would say yes, collect leaves immediately, let the seed pods finish drying out a bit then collect the seeds. My plants usually do not wilt until after the seed pods have finished developing and open naturally, so I am a little concerned your seeds may be underdeveloped but it is still worth a shot.
