Doubts about pressure cookers and canners in Spain.
    #28392806 - 07/11/23 06:52 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Hello,

I'm new to cultivation, I ordered a spore print and now I'm gathering all materials and instruments needed for cultivation.

When it comes to PCs, I have issues finding "Pressure Canners" in Spain, all I see on sale are traditional pressure cookers (some with 2 or more levels of pressure) but no manometer as I've seen on the tutorials here.
Also I read it should reach 20psi, and the pressure cookers I've seen in Spain roughly reach 15psi...

My question is: Is it enough to pasteurize (on a normal cooking pan) brown rice and/or coconut fiber? If not, then is it enough if I "sterilize" on a traditional pressure cooker at whatever pressure it reaches? (even if below 15psi)

Sorry if these questions are too basic, I've been researching for a week and this is the only thing I have to solve to start my cultivation journey.

Thanks in advance!

15psi is the standard and most pressure cookers have multiple "levels". Mine can run at 5, 10 or 15

Thanks for the quick reply!

Okay, so, I'll be fine with a common pressure cooker then, right?

A 15psi pressure cooker should work for most teks on this site. You could also make the sterilizing time a little longer if you want to be safe.

Don't assume that a 'common pressure cooker' will reach 15psi - you need to verify the specific model will reach the correct pressure as many of the European and digital PC models only operate at ~10psi.

Thank you all for your responses.

The Presto one you linked needs to be shipped, and I live in the Canary Islands, so shipping costs about $50, (and then the customs cost, that with a big and heavy object will be charged for sure, I'll be paying twice the price of the PC). That's why I'm looking for a PC that's sold on a local store, to avoid shipping and import costs.

I'll keep looking for a regular PC that reaches 15psi, if still can't find it I'll have to order something and carry with the costs.

One last question, does it matter if it reaches a little less than 15 psi? I've seen a standard here of PCs reaching 100kPa, which equals to 14.5 psi.

Just slightly increase PC time

Pretty sure that's the same, just 103 doesn't look as good on packaging. Just like 14.5 doesn't look as good on packaging.
