BV Harvest now?
    #28392945 - 07/11/23 09:34 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Addendum::
Ok harvested today.
How do I do “2nd flush?”

9th day of fruiting.
If you zoom in, I guess that is the veil that broke on these fatties?
or just let them go a few days more? My first grow.

I am not familiar with the variety, but they remind me of brown capped Yetis in appearance.  I'd let them go a bit longer, even the bigger guys.  Those probably break the veil early in their maturation.  Just eyeballing them, I'd wait until the stipe becomes somewhat soft, like a marshmallow.  See if they start stretching out on you or plumping up.

As you grow more and become familiar with your cultures, you'll get an idea of when to optimally harvest them.  When I have a new to me variety, I'll often let them go too long on one of my first flushes (or even just a few of the mushrooms in a first flush), just to check them out and see the full spectrum of maturation, but hey, that's just me...

Thank you for the advice! They are Bluey Vuitton, and yes, I believe the veil breaks early.
I do hope for a second flush but don't see any pins.

Aren't those one of the PE crosses of some kind? If they don't drop spores and veil breaks early then go by squishiness test, is it firm or soft and squishy? If very firm I wait on certain types.

You can wait a while longer until they become soft but my suggestion would be harvest what you have now in a day or 2 and then soak so they are ready for the next flush because you won't having any new pins pop up that are worth picking until next flush.

Thanks for the advice!
That’s interesting because yes you are right, I see zero new pins.
I am not sure how to “soak” the cake. Someone mentioned injecting distilled water every square inch or so.

I have tap water that I don't mind drinking so I just take my tubs and run the faucet over them and leave them overnight before pouring out the water and giving a light misting before it is put back into fruiting conditions.

Do as Cocaine Buffet said above. In the future don't delete everything in your post as now it makes the post less relevant to future searches on similar subjects. Lots of good archival posts on this site.

Man - quit editing and deleting stuff from the original post!  Just create a new post below it so the whole thread actually tracks with coherence.
