"You are God's being."
One of any number of ways to say, to use the law that as we see others, we see ourselves, to form a base or principle of thought.

I hadn't seen or remembered much from the 12 Keys. In intro by Basilius Valentinus. https://ia601405.us.archive.org/9/items/340freeoccultbooks/Twelve%20Keys.pdf
You need not look for our metallic seed among the elements. It need not be sought so far back. If you can only rectify the Mercury, Sulphur, and Salt (understand, those of the Sages) until the metallic spirit and body are inseparably joined together by means of the metallic soul, you thereby firmly rivet the chain of love, and prepare the palace for the coronation.
These things represent a liquid key, comparable to the celestial influence, and a dry water joined to the terrestrial substance: all which are one thing, derived from three, and two, and one. If you understand this, you have already attained our Magistery.
Saturn's wrath is on Mercury.
My wretchedness is entirely caused by that fickle and inconstant Mercury, by his careless and neglectful conduct. Therefore, I pray you, let us be avenged on him, shut him up in prison, and keep him there till he dies and is decomposed, nay, until not a drop of his blood is to be seen.

Quote:
Mercury (Quicksilver): Mercury is associated with the fluid, volatile, and transformative aspects of matter. It represents the spiritual essence or soul of a substance. In alchemical terms, mercury represents the principle of change, transformation, and the transmutation of base metals into gold. It is often depicted as a silver liquid metal.
Sulfur: Sulfur is associated with the fiery, active, and masculine principles. It represents the soul, energy, and the force of life. Sulfur symbolizes the volatile and combustible aspects of matter. It is often portrayed as a yellow or fiery substance. In alchemical processes, the union of sulfur and mercury was seen as crucial for the completion of the Great Work, which aimed to create the Philosopher's Stone or achieve spiritual enlightenment.
Salt: Salt represents the stable, solid, and material aspects of matter. It is associated with the physical body and the fixed, crystallized form of substances. Salt symbolizes the principle of preservation, embodiment, and grounding. It is often depicted as a white crystalline substance. In alchemical processes, the combination of salt, sulfur, and mercury was seen as essential for achieving harmony and balance within the elements and the transformation of matter.

I find that, so difficult (effortless) to hold, calm is better in resolution than fire, though fire supports the sane act - though fire is not stable that has not been purified of the passions, or perhaps the fickleness of Mercury. We can point to Saturn for our woes, though it is our fickleness that has made him wretched, inviting maleficence.
Sometimes I think things can't happen until planets turn, and in time past it is apparent, and often it seems there are other hands in our direction as the lower and higher natures are played in the cosmos.
And of the will, is it ours? The loftiest of aims fall flat, then come on their own. Do I mean not to fight? No, what else can be done? Be, but to be is will of wisdom, a circle. To be (still) is a success against the currents. Be as well the currents. Again, a recalled wisdom, volitional.
Programmed habits. We have the code and can run it. Again, who runs it? The will is like the fickle Mercury, and the messenger of wisdom. Nevertheless, the will to die to nature is to become it, as in the alchemical process in the 12 Keys. Cool read.
"Observe also, thou who art a lover of this Art, that the salt that is gained from ashes has great potency, and possesses many concealed virtues. Nevertheless, the salt is unprofitable, until its inward substance has been extracted. For the spirit alone gives strength and life. The body by itself profits nothing. If you know how to find this spirit, you have the Salt of the Sages, and the incombustible oil, concerning which many things have been written before my time."

In the end he gives 'shorter' alternatives though I was not understanding much in the second half and less in the easier ones, though content enough in allusions to other understandings.
This one is interesting.
"As a parting kindness to you, I am constrained to add that the spirit may also be extracted from black Saturn and benevolent Jupiter. When it has been reduced to a sweet oil, we have a means of robbing the common liquid quicksilver of its vivacity, or rendering it firm and solid, as is also set forth in my book."
Here is a riddle for ye.
Quote:
The eleventh Key to the Knowledge of the augmentation of our Stone, I will put before you in the form of a parable.
There lived in the East a gilded knight, named Orpheus, who was possessed of immense wealth, and had everything that heart can wish. He had taken to wife his own sister, Euridice, who did not, however, bear him any children. This he regarded as the punishment of his sin in having wedded his own sister, and was instant in prayer to God both by day and by night, that the curse might be taken from him.
One night, when he was buried in a deep sleep, there came to him a certain winged messenger, named Phoebus, who touched his feet, which were very hot, and said: " Thou noble knight, since thou hast wandered through many cities and kingdoms, and suffered many things at sea, in battle, and in the lists, the heavenly Father has bidden me make known to thee the following means of obtaining thy prayer: Take blood from thy right side, and from the left side of thy spouse. For this blood is the heart's blood of your parents, and though it may seem to be of two kinds, vet, in reality, it is only one. Mix the two kinds of blood, and keep the mixture tightly enclosed in the globe of the seven wise Masters. There that which is generated will be nourished with its own flesh and blood, and will complete its course of development when the Moon has changed for the eighth time. If thou repeat this process again and again, thou shalt see children's children, and the offspring of thy body shall fill the world.
When Phoebus had thus spoken, he winged his flight heavenward. In the morning the knight arose and did the bidding of the celestial messenger, and God gave to him and to his wife many children, who inherited their father's glory, wealth, and knightly honours from generation to generation.
If you are wise, my son, you will find the interpretation of my parable. If you do not understand it, ascribe the blame not to me, but to your own ignorance. I may not express myself more explicitly; indeed, I have revealed the matter in a more plain and straightforward manner than any of my predecessors. I have concealed nothing; and if you will but remove the veil of ignorance from your eyes, you will behold that which many have sought and few found.

"Although the self is at all times and in all things, yet it cannot shine in everything, but will shine only in the consciousness, just as a reflection will appear only in polished surfaces."
"One should separate the grain of the pure inner self from the chaff of the body and- other sheaths by the threshing of reason."

I really like the idea of that!
The pathless path! It's like the gateless gate in zen!

I eventually read the article here: https://www.jstor.org/stable/1398696?seq=1 The Path of No-Path: Śankara and Dōgen on the Paradox of Practice Needs sign up to read.
The article may need a couple passes, waiting for the cool of night perhaps.
Suffice it to say maybe, that any work around enlightenment is removing obstruction and not adding anything. Is this sufficient? What of cultivation? There is work within the qualities that may be confused.
