I think I may have isolated the cause of the stalled growth. The room I'm using is the one room in the house without ventilation. It sits on the southeast corner of the house away from the sun, which is well north at this time of year. At least I thought so. I went in there this morning early and that rising sun was shining through the drawn curtains right on the box I'm using to grow the bags. So, for an hour or two early in the morning that box was well above good grow temps. The curtains are fairly thin cotton and was allowing a good bit of sun to hit that box. I've only been going in there late in the day when the temps are about 72 and no sunlight was coming in. I've moved the box to an area of the room that won't get any sunlight and I'll also keep the door open for the room to get more or less direct ventilation. Maybe this will solve the problem?

Higher temps actually increases growth speed, as well as bacterial spread which is why lower temps are recommended. I've grown in 90 degrees no problem, but it was clean spawn.
The bag is bacterial. Thay is why the slow growth and stalling.

This is why we always say pre made is risky and to make your own stuff. Everything starts woth clean spawn. You can't suspect other factors until you reach that point cause it'll be the source of your issues most the time.

Also, making your own is both easy and usually much cheaper than buying premade. Unless perhaps you live in a country where supplies such as coir for example are hard to come by.

I thought I'd follow this up with final results. I started my first grow on May 7th with 4 varieties in "all in one" bags. They mostly stalled and the reason why is in this thread, as people above said leave them alone and have patience. I didn't leave them alone and of the four, one never grew any mycelium (Ecuadoran), another (PE) became contaminated, a third is still stalled, but the fourth, ah, the fourth is producing beautifully after two full months. That fourth one is Huautla, the "original" magic mushroom discovered by intellectuals in the mid 50s in Mexico. That mushroom is an interesting read, google Maria Sabina and huautla for the beginning of this road we're all on. In the meantime I've started four new bags on June 7th and they (because I'm leaving them alone!) are doing great. Two of those are just about ready to expose to light and begin fruiting, and the other two aren't far behind. My first Huatla pick is in the photos, now drying to prepare for that experience. I've got about a dozen large shrooms from the first day (yesterday) and should get at least that many tomorrow and for some days to come. Thank you all for the experienced advice.

Glad you’re getting fruit. The species was first described in 1906 as Stropharia cubensis by American mycologist Franklin Sumner Earle in Cuba.

That is not "the mushroom" ala R. Gordon Wasson/Maria Sabina. It's just named after her town.
The Mazatecs traditionally used psilocybe caerulescens, much stronger than what you have there.

Nice fruit. And yes, patience can be challenging!

I tried my first dose yesterday with 20 grams of fresh huautla, diced and soaked in lemon juice overnight. That is the first time in over forty years that I've had the experience. This is well below the 'heroic' dose, but it came on strong during that first hour and was kind of unpleasant at first. No visual or auditory hallucinations, but I was just bit too dazed to enjoy that first hour. After that it was just a pleasant feeling over my body with pleasant dreamy thoughts. I keep a couple of horses and went outside and spent time with them, stroking and talking to them. I noticed things I hadn't known before. The changes in their eyes, ears and posture when I petted their necks. I was seeing subtle cues that show affection for me. Hell, I already know they like me because they trot up and let me throw a saddle on them and ride around in the desert, but yesterday I was seeing things I had not noticed before. Their eyes get rounder when petted and their ears go straight up and spread out when they're happy. These are connections or observations that I didn't have prior to this. It's a small thing, but something I wouldn't have known without the experience. Next time I'll try a slightly lower dose until I find a happy medium without that first dazed hour.
