Mono tub vs Shoe box Newbie?
    #28391246 - 07/10/23 11:07 AM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Sup all brand new still in research phase.  We've been looking into this for awhile for anxiety, ADD and a hoist of other issues.  It's looking promising so taking the plunge.  Have a few questions for more experienced folks. If I don't use the right terminology forgive my ignorance in advance.  I do garden and have done sealed terrariums so making sure my thoughts aren't getting skewed.

Mono tub vs Shoe box Dub Tub

Honestly dub tub has confused me some.  People use bags on top to get the height for the shrooms so I'm assuming terminology was due to originally you used a 2nd tub to get the height?

Trying to wrap my head around my thoughts on this.  Grain spawning would be mason jars.  I havne't figured out how many jars per tub yet.  So I'm sure my example is wrong but let's say 5.

Mono Tub -  5 jars spawn for fruiting,  the larger tub is more self supporting but if you get contamination the whole tub is bad?

Shoe Box - 5 Tubs with one jar spawn ea.  Evaporation or too much humidity could be an issue.  More work to keep levels at what you need too.  You can have one tub get contaminated but the others are still good?

Thanks for any advice and I will continue reading threw the Tek's as well.

You’re on the right track. Shoeboxes are the way to go as a newbie. It might take some time until you’ve got the hang of clean spawn, so it’s probably best to leave monos alone until later. Shoeboxes are the definition of set & forget if you prep em right, so less effort to dial things in. Dub tub or bag doesn’t matter, do whatever floats your boat

Welcome to the Shroomery :cheers:

Serotonergic compounds like the psilocybin in mushrooms that act on the 5HT2A receptors can cause early onset of psychiatric conditions and/or exacerbate currently present issues.
Make sure to do your research and don’t think it is a magic “fix all” compound before permanently changing your cognitive state.

TLDR;
Shoeboxes are smaller, once pins(small mushies) start forming in the substrate(grain mixed with whatever) you can either put another shoe box on top upside down to give extra space/air to grow or take the top off and put the whole thing in a bigger tub.
Mono tubs are basically big-shoeboxes.
How much you use depends on the size and your preference

But I’m also a noob so
