Red Gasket Sealant Suspected Fertility Damage

I ordered the red gasket silicone sealant that everyone talks about using for SHIPS. I read the back before using it and it says Hazards : "Suspected Fertility Damage " So I had to wait till the next day and I bought a food grade silicone that's (used for aquariums) also heat resistant and waterproof. Why aren't more people using a silicone sealant with less health risks? Especially for growing something you eat...?

Fertility damage? BONUS.

if you need to sterilize red rtv is what you should use, i'm not sure how much heat food safe silicone can handle
Honestly you would have to be eating the silicone to get any health issues like infertility, wear gloves while applying if you're worried and resist the temptation to eat it lol and you will be ok

Pretty much all the silicone sealants are OK with the heat but some do stick better than others.
I'd just be careful not get this stuff all over your fingers and hands when applying but once the sealant has cured then it's pretty much inert. I probably wouldn't make a DIY baking mold out of the red stuff but using it for an injection port on spawn jars won't have an impact.

I'll try to resist the temptation to eat it ๐ but it's shiny and red and looks so tasty!
The Aquarium silicone I got says it can withstand 450ยฐF Only problem is that it says 24 hours to cure... but the excess can still be wiped off and it's been 41 hours (although it did rain yesterday) I'm wondering if I should just sit it in front of the hair dryer for a little while.. because where I live the humidity is a killer... it's possible the air isn't dry enough here for it to cure???
And yes! Gloves! The gloves were amazing because I could just use my finger to make the globs of silicone a little neater around the ports. By the 3rd or 4th lid I felt like a pro LOL. It's really satisfying to create something.
