epilectric said: a friend who has had psychotic breaks explained psychosis like the stripping away of learned associations while still having the information in the brain and then just patching up any possibility of connections between events.. i mean, the moth could spy on you after all, who knows.. =D (not really though)
what slips away is short term memory effects - this is not memory, but recent mental activation which normally keeps you on task, helps define who you are, keeps focus on what you are doing, and why you walked into any particular room, etc. the short term memory effect makes it easier to have associations of what was recently active in mind.
when you get stoned your short term memory is reduced while your resonance or sense of deeply felt and layered meaning is increased - with the net effect being that you have no clue of what is happening intensely, and that easily goes to paranoia.
Maybe you are taking too much for your mental and physical disposition; however if you can relax into not necessarily knowing where you are or what you are doing or what your name is, then you can continue to enjoy the amazing effects of weed, which is totally psychedelic in my opinion, and great for enjoying the minutae of life.
A mild dose of shrooms is not more psychedelic than weed; it could be less intense, and it might leave more short term memory intact, but still you have to practice relaxing, and allowing that for a period of time you may not know what is happening and that that is still ok even though things feel more intense.

Yeah, one cannot overcome mental reflexes by wanting, willing, or pretending. the wild effects are groovy, but the loss of context, even if intermittent, can be totally jarring. smoking a bit less could be divine. a bit of short term memory effect assures you have a friend (the last vestiges of your self).
For STM loss / ego loss intensity, preparation for set and setting help immensly: the space can be laid out with soothing sounds and imagery and physical comfort in mind, and with a very few non-confusing symbols and shapes that self explain, like
Words can be considered too complicated.
Oddly people seem to go the other way eg: big wordy posters like https://www.desiderata.com/desiderata.html, which even with it's innate good vibes, presents a challenge to a non-reading mentality. One can only let go and succumb, reading is on another planet.

this is the best effect keep a log of the dose and effect, or just keep on using this dose for all your experimentation/play/therapy
