Like I said before, you wait for the shiitake to brown up, then remove from the bag and soak overnight. Pat dry and into the tent. Reishi do well grown in the bag all the way through. If you want conchs, you can put a couple slits in the sides and fold the top of the bag down and secure in place with some tape and put in the tent. They sporulate like a mofo so if going for conchs, you’ll have to deal with that or plumb the tent with and evacuation fan out of the house.

Yes on the shiitake…you’ll have to put a weight on them as they will float. Alternatively, some folks will just cut the top off the bag and pour water in to cover the block…soak for 8 hours, remove, rinse and into the tent. Don’t cut the bag open on the reishi. They grow sealed in and form antlers.

For shiitake like 5-7 lbs. that includes 10-20% supplementation with bran and 60% hydration by weight. This recipe would make six 5# blocks.

You bet. You can play around with sup % depending on the shiitake culture you’re using. Also, it takes about 2-3 months for the blocks to brown up before being ready to birth, so be prepared to wait.

hey mate one more question. just to make sure the reishi blocks are kinda just a set and forget. meaning you dont have to dunk them?

Nope, just prep, sterilize, inoculate, seal and let it ride. They look all kinds of funky as they develop but turn out fine. I can’t remember how many pounds I did on those…seems more like 3 per bag and a half court spawn. Play around with different weights, sup % (best not to exceed 20%) and spawn rates.
