How many micron filter for air exchange in a monotub?

Trichoderma spores are typically 3-5 microns in diameter so logic says that the filter should filter down to 2 microns.
Quote:
The organism grows and ramifies as typical fungal hyphae, 5 to 10 Β΅m in diameter. Asexual sporulation occurs as single-celled, usually green, conidia (typically 3 to 5 Β΅m in diameter) that are released in large numbers.
However the filters I see for sale on the internet, includes those advertised as appropriate for mushroom cultivation, are in the 10-25 micron range. And furthermore, polyfil which I see commonly used is going to allow the Trichoderma spores through many times over.
So does this matter? Ideally would the filters be 2 micron or better? Would such a filter slow the airflow a lot and the monotub require more holes? Basically, how many micron should the filter filter down to for air exchange use in a monotub?

When you spawn to bulk we dont really care about filtration. Lids arent air tight to begin with, and trich is everywhere. If you have good spawn that shouldnt be a problem unless you have an insane spore load

Appreciated.
So when people do get a contamination inside a monotub, what would the typical cause for this be? (And hence how to avoid it)

You don't need filters for tubs, period. Filters maintain sterility, tubs are not sterile environments. Culture and spawn production phases require encapsulated sterile environments free of fast growing competitor organisms like mold.
Sterilization cycles destroy bacteria, yeasts and molds like trichoderma, which creates an ecological vacuum for your target mycelium to grow unencumbered by the presence of competition.
Once your grain spawn has become fully colonized there's no opening for competitors to take root. This is why your grain jars/bags have filtered openings to allow gas exchange for the mycelium to breathe while maintaining that sterility.
Any contamination will take place during the spawn run, if you're successful producing clean spawn, mixing it in the open air with hydrated coir is not going to produce contamination. Filtering the tub after spawning to bulk, in the open air with your hands is 100% pointless. You will be mixing non sterile airborne particles into your substrate along with your spawn, this is why your spawn needs to be both clean amd fully colonized.
Shit, it's already been pounced on before I could finish typing
