Shoeboxes inside EZ dials - lids on or off?

For those who are experienced putting 2 shoeboxes inside a 66qt pw ezdial, do you leave the shoebox lids completely off the whole time? I started with leaving the shoebox lids on and flipped. The purple handle sterlite leaves a nice fae area at the handle this way. I was thinking about leaving them like this until pinning, but now I'm wondering if I should just leave the lids off completely and let the ez dial take care of all fae. I don't want to have to mist.

Yeah, I gotcha. Just didn't know if there was a latest and greatest setup to ride with from the start. Things are looking good so far so I guess I'll stick to lids flipped for now.

I thought shoeboxes can just be fruited on their own without placing them in a larger container.

They can. But some TCs, including Munchauzen and Mushboy, put them inside monos and I figured it's a better way to be able to dial in conditions (more combos of lids/holes to work with for dialing).

Keep the lid on as though it was a regular mono.

I like how you quoted me on that part lmao.
I am doing that with the mono lid. I was wondering about the shoebox lids inside the mono. So right now I have 2 shoeboxes with lids flipped inside an ez dial with lid on.

I keep the shoebox lids on until primordia form, then take them off to fruit. Keeping the lids latched on helps maintain moisture; adding much more substrate helps as well.

Excellent, that's along the lines of what I was thinking. Thank you, SnC.

I wasn't super confident in the spawn. They looked ok but only T2, so I just went with 1:2 spawn:sub to be safe. My next set is going to be from T5&T6's, and clean T2s from clones, so as long as the jars look good I will go with 1:3 or 1:4 on the next set, unless you recommend higher?

Play with a bunch of different ratios to see which suits you the best. I always spawn 1:6, but that's what suits me for a few reasons, whhich may or may not apply to your situation.

1:6 hot damn. I'll take your advice and experiment. I tried to watch your shoebox video but it says not available :/

I personally don't... And I don't think Mushboy does either (could be wrong). The appeal of the shoebox design is that it has an appropriate amount of FAE with the lid that comes with it. If you are able to go to Target for those purple handled tubs there is a cheaper Target version of it with a white lid. I think its like a dollar per shoebox.

Good to know, thanks! I'll definitely pick a few of those up next time I'm at Target and experiment with your method, too. It's always great when cheap and simple work just as well or better than other methods.

Its what I use for my shoeboxes. Something I learned too late is as the non-branded Target bin gets bigger the lid seems to not fit so look for something with handles if you want to do bigger tubs. The white lid seems to warp as it gets bigger and not click into place.
