Trich, cobweb, tomentose mycellium, or....?
    #28387228 - 07/06/23 02:43 PM (1 year, 6 months ago)

Second and third attempts at shoeboxes after a pretty successful grow using PF tek. First shoebox spawn was grated pf cakes and lost it to either trich or aspergillus. Decided to use WBS for spawn on the second and third attempts. WBS was PC'd for 2 hrs, and inoculated using agar wedges. 1st set of spawn jars looked very healthy and definitely mycelium, however the 2nd set looks suspect. CVG substrate for the 1st set was pasteurized / cooked using boiling water poured over it in a cooler for several hours. One tote was cased, and several others were not. All seem to be having the same suspect growth... Thanks in advance for the help!

The photos are a bit too small but from what I can see it looks alright or could due to conditions and/or substrate prep being on the dry side but doesn't scream contam afaiac.

I would throw a coir top layer on those tubs and forget about them for a while.

Yepp, could be a tad dry.
Nevertheless better a tad dry than too wet.
You should have a bit more myc on the surface now,
on the myc you can check for your moisture level.
Be anal about that, it´s very important for pinning.
Have a look here how these tiny water pearls should look all the time up to pinning stage.

And yeah, an additional top layer of good hydrated coir can make a difference.
